PS.  I was told absolutely NO Cold FX, and you're having surgery at the same hospital, so I am assuming they still have the same rule on that.  Plus, that stuff only works if you are taking it before the fact as a preventative measure, not once you have already gotten a cold.

It works great if you catch it at the first throat tickle.  But it's a different regimen than a daily preventative dose.  1 day of 3 pills 3 times a day, next day is 2 pills 3 times a day, last day is 1 pill 3 times a day.  I was told it was ok to take it but not by the surgeon.  A phone call to St. Joe's would help clarify.

I know this will sound gross but it will heal you up in no time...take some apple cider vinegar now if you can not take it straight and it to some warm water and a dash of honey if you can have honey, Good Luck and you will be fine

I thought based on the subject line this was an emergency. Call your surgeons office. Nothing we tell you matters - its what they say that matters. However I've read many times about people getting a mild cold before surgery and surgery proceeding.

Sometimes the best support  you can get isn't all purple puddles and pink rainbows.

You can take certain medications pre op but not all.  I was allowed Tylenol but no Advil for 2 weeks prior to surgery.  They had other meds that weren't allowed either but I wasn't on any of them so don't remember which ones.  Cold F/X is not allowed because it has Ginseng in it and it can thin the blood so you have to avoid before surgery.  When in doubt, speak to the bariatric team and get their authorization since each centre is different.

Tylenol is pretty harmless.  I wouldn't worry.  Antibiotics on the other hand, you should check about and use your judgement as to whether or not they are truly needed.

Aleve is a definite NO as it's an Nsaid.  No Nsaids before surgery(usually 2 weeks before) and if you end up with an RNY, no Nsaids after surgery.
