help for newbie?
I was a member here a couple of years ago, and haven't been able to find my way around...I recall there being links to information about how to fill out OHIP forms, etc, but I can't find it and there doesn't seem to be any sticky topics about it. Where can I find the very basic information about which surgeries are covered, getting an OOC procedure, etc?

Hiya, Things have changed in Ontario. The government is increasing funding to centres in Ontario and do not seem to be sending people out of country any longer....(perhaps someone else is also familiar). You are referred by your doctor to the Bariatric Registry and based on your postal code are sent tto nearest centre. The current gold standard is RNY, although there are some VSG surgeries covered due to medical requirements.
Things are not the same as they were when you were here last. There is a process that you must now go through to have surgery in Ontario. Your family doctor must first refer you to a Bariatric Assesssment and Treatment Centre. He/she does that online at http://www.bariatricregistry.ca/ . You then see several staff including a nutritionist, social worker, the nurse, doctor and possibly others depending on your situation. You will be sent to a Bariatric Centre of Excellence in Ontario. The most common procedure is RNY but sometimes they will allow VSG and even more seldom DS. Stay on the site and keep asking questions while you are waiting. An average time from beginning to end is about a year or so.
