I am trying
Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since my surgery. I am only getting in about 2, 8 oz glasses of water and about 1.5-2 bottles of the carnation breakfast drink(3 is recommend) which is only 26 grams of protien. I am not hungry nor feel like I can drink anymore than I am right now. I start full fluids tomorrow which will allow me some yogart, cream soup and oatmeal.
I am also not walking as much as I should be as I am really tired and still alittle sore.I almost feel like I am in a slump or funk.
I see others that have had surgery the same day or close to my date and they are so far ahead of my progress.
Has anyone had a slow start like I am having or do I need a kick in the ass?
tata
P.S since Opti fast I am 26 pounds down so that is one positive thing.

Hey Tata... You are doing great with your weight loss. As long as you are doing your best to get in your water and protein (which you seem to be), then that's a good thing!
We had surgery on the same day, and since that day I have experienced so many mixed emotions. I've felt super happy, and also sad that my relationship with food will be forever changed.
It's so weird how different each hospital's rules are... I was on full fluids on day 2 (they started me in the hospital to make sure I could tolerate it before they sent me home), and you are just starting as I am just starting purees....
I wonder if you would feel less tired if you got in more calories, say, from a cream soup etc... let me know how the full fluids go. Any vets want to pipe in on the tired issue?
Hang in there! xoxo

Hi tata
I can definitely relate to feeling like I'm not keeping up and post-surgery not meeting my expectations. I've suffered ridiculous amounts of pain and have been in to emerg and had to be on narcotics for the past two weeks. The whole time, I was wondering what I could possibly be doing wrong that I wasn't meeting the standard. Turns out that there is no standard. We all heal differently.
That said, I never had any problem getting in my liquids and proteins (don't forget that your protein drinks count towards your liquid intake too). Our instructions from the Ottawa clinic were that the diet time simply a guide but that moving forward was more guided by how we were able to tolerate items/quantities at each stage as opposed to set time schedules. We were told that once we were able to get in our 60+ grams of protein and all of our liquids, we could move to pureed. Whether that took two days or three weeks would depend on the individual.
I'm a little concerned for you that you're not able to get in your proteins and liquids but are about to start consuming less-protein rich foods because the calendar says you should. Losing weight is a given but if you're not consuming your protein where is the weight coming from, fat or muscle?
Just my two cents to start the ball rolling. I'm sure others who are far more knowledgeable than I will jump in here. If there's anything I've learned post-surgery, it's that despite all my reasearch, I don't know nearly as much as I thought I did.
Good luck and hang in there. It'll come as long as you keep making the right choices.
Godspeed.

I'm 10 weeks out. You're doing fine. The best you can is fine. Once you move on to full fluids, you have more options for proteiny foods. Your breakfast drink counts toward your fluids, like other have said. Take care of yourself. Walk as much as you can, get lots of rest, and it'll come. Don't sweat it.
everyone heals differently,
i know i was sipping all bloody day long and i'm sure i didnt' get more than whatyou are taking in to start, just walk as much as you can, even thru the house.
no ass kicking needed, you've been thru major surgery, everyday you heal a bit more and will increase your fluids as you go.
Congrats on the weight loss.
Your doing just fine.

Are you on pain meds? I did not realize when I had my RNY how negatively they affected me.
Are you taking your vitamins? You could be very tired if you have low iron or other lows.
Be sure you are getting enough liquid to stay hydrated. Symptoms of dehydration include dry, sticky mouth, sleepiness or tiredness, thirst, decreased urine output, dry skin , headache, constipation, dizziness or lightheadedness.
Also, I found that going back on high calorie foods such as cream soup after surgery was a bad idea, it starts a carb craving cycle. I realize that it`s on the list - not sure why.
