You're awesome, youre taking the steps to ensure that you're going to be healthier. How you look now does not represent the person that you really are. I know exactly how you feel. Even now, as I'm losing weight, i feel great until i look in the mirror. I can tell when i look at my face, that i've lost weight, but not when i look at my body. It's important to realize how you look, honestly, so taht you'll be able to see and appreciate the changes that you're going to be experiencing.

Hi Monica - thanks so much for the birthday greetings! You're right - the "inner" and "outer" me are two different people and I do realize that. We have to learn to like ourselves more and not be so hard on ourselves - you too! You are a wonderful "work in progress"!

Happy Birthday Deb!  I think everyone of us here understands how you feel about seeing pictures of yourself.  I know I do!!  When I get dressed up to go out and I look in the mirror I think I look pretty good (my mirror shows my reflection from the neck up LOL)and then later if someone has taken a picture and I see it I think to myself WTH?  Uggggg.
Next birthday I bet you will be posting your celebration pictures on this forum for as all to see.  Once again, have a Happy Birthday.

I'm with you about the mirror. I got all dressed up recently & was so pleased in how my face and hair looked until I saw my body. Even my new outfit didn't make me feel good - I was just a fat lady wearing a nice, attractive outfit - yuck!  Next year WILL be better!

Wow, Karen! All I can say is that you've sure come a long way, baby!!!! Although, even with all that extra weight you were carrying with you, you were still so pretty. My gosh Karen, you are a completely different person now, aren't you? Congrats on the changes! You look fabulous!

Just don't ever feel shame in those before pictures. They serve to show us where we were and where we've become.

That's because you are more than just your looks.  YOU are a beautiful person because of the spirit and the essence of "Deb" that you carry inside you, and that you give to other people.  You no doubt have people who love and cherish you, not because you are skinny or fat, or whatever.  They love you because of who you are.  In fact, my husband didn't even really see the fat me.  I am 6 months post op, and when I showed him a picture I found of me just before surgery, he was stunned.  He never saw my fat, he saw me.  Your loved ones undoubtably feel the same way about you, and the rest of the world, well, frankly their opinions don't matter.  Have a wonderful, wonderful birthday!  Enjoy yourself and don't feel down.  Your turn is coming soon!
