other surgeries

I have certainly seen that other necessary surgeries (such as hernia) have been done at the same time as gastric bypass...but has anyone requested and had (or been denied) a second procedure such as getting your tubes tied at the same time as the RNY?

My doctor has been recommending it to me for years (get pretty bad headaches from the bc pill) but I was reluctant to undergo surgery due to my weight (ironic that I need surgery to reduce the weight!), but I was thinking that perhaps they could both be done at the same time.

Any thoughts?

I would be HIGHLY surprised if they agreed to do a tubal ligation at the same time as your RNY - it's not a necessary surgery like a sick gallbladder would be.  'Fraid not, but go ahead and ask.

I kind of doubt it too...but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.  Would be nice if I could save myself a second surgery...

Agreed.  When I had my gallbladder out a few years ago I requested a tubal at the same time and was lucky enough to have the surgeon agree to it.  BUT.... RNY is a much more serious operation - I wouldn't wanna mess with it.  Why not get your tubes tied now while you're waiting for WLS?

Good idea...hadn't thought of that.  I will talk to my doctor about it when I see him.  It might help to pass the time!! LOL  Give me something else to think about during the long wait.

and, if i'm not mistaken, they can do a tubal ligation intravaginally (through your vajayjay), so i think it's relatively minor.
(don't quote me, i could be wrong, it doesnt happen very often, tho)

You are probably right as I had a friend who had a hysterectomy  that way.  If they can do that I am sure they could do a tubal ligation that way.

Time for some more research!

I know at our orientation in Ottawa they said don't even bother asking for a 2-for-1, other than possibly gallbladder or a hernia, if they feel it is necessary at the time.
