Weird stomach/pain question

For the last couple of days I have been having a stong tearing/burning feeling in my lower abdomen beneath my belly button if I cough and am sitting up.  Hernia?  *dread*

See a doctor.

Yeah yeah, I know. Was hoping that maybe I just pulled something - doing what I have no idea.

I'll answer your question seriously now.  When I had my 3 ventral hernias, they all felt similar to what you are describing.  My doc could easily feel them even the tiny one so just have your doc feel around and they will know right away.

I have to look up what ventral herias are, but thank you.

I'll be serious now too. My husband was recently diagnosed with an inguinal hernia and is awaiting hernia surgery at St. Mike's (hopefully for later this summer) and he described it exactly how you have when it first happened; a tearing sensation when coughing, and now it's more a bulging sensation when coughing. It concerns him so much he holds the area 'in' when he coughs now, but hopefully he'll get surgery soon! I suppose it could be a pulled muscle in your case, but it seems like a somewhat unlikely spot, so always best to get it checked out - necrotic guts protruding beneath the skin can be a nasty complication if it gets serious...
