Family Vacation Thoughts & Pics

This whole year has been really eye opening for me in regards to so many things related to my weight.  I had been in such denial for so long about how my life was impacted by my weight but ever since I made the decision that I needed WLS as a tool in my life I have been so much more aware to just how much this problem limits me.

We just went on vacation at an outdoor camping resort in the USA - we had such a great time!  I loved almost every minute of it but there were definite things that I was so aware of....like when we went on our nature hike and my ankles were killing me by about halfway through - I wanted to quit because the pain was so bad but I just pushed myself to keep going for the kids....also my son was learning to do canonballs and big jumps into the pool and he wanted me to do some with him and I just didn't feel comfortable doing that. : (  Breaks my heart a little bit.......just little things like this that I can't wait to have back - obesity knocks me down more times than I have cared to admit in the past.

Regardless.....hopefully this will be the last family vacation where I'll be bombarded with those thoughts....it was a great time despite those thoughts and I thought I'd share some pics....just a couple - we actually took about 250 pictures from our adventure!

My daughter Violet enjoying the park!

My son Jacob (5) hiding under the water.....crazy kid!

Violet in the camper....

The kids and I hiding behind a tree (how convenient...heh)

What will likely become one of my soon to be famous before pics!

And last......these are too cute....

Even though you're in the process, you still have to find ways to enjoy your life, and it looks like you have by having a wonderful vacation.  Think of the memories your children will have of that holiday.  Look forward to the future and all the changes it will bring once you're on the other side of surgery, but in the meantime, keep enjoying your family and your life.

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

I can sooooo relate!  My daughter is almost 17 (next Tuesday) and this process has really made me reflect on some of the things she has missed out on due to my obesity.  I don't have regrets....I really try to live regret free, always doing better once I know better, no beating myself up for past choices....but I do wish I had known about this surgery and/or had the option to have the surgery years ago.  Fortunately, my mom is the enegizer bunny and has taken over doing most of the physical stuff with my daughter over the years, but I can't wait to join them!!

We are also campers (leaving to go for a week on August 6th).  There are certainly things that will be much easier next year after having surgery.  Getting up off the floor of the tent, being able to sit in any chair available, hiking, swimming, playing with my five year old twin neices, etc.

You have a beautiful family!!!  Glad you had a great vacation.

Great pictures! Looks like you and your family had a nice time. Just try to take things one step at a time and soon it will be your turn.  I wish you all the best on your journey and I am looking forward to seeing the after photos.

I think all of us going through this journey, no matter what stage, needs to just focus on the future and what we will be able to do. Good for you for taking this step and there will be many more wonderful vacations where you will be able to do it all!
