Sorry to hear that the sleep problems are continuing Barb! Have you had your iron checked lately? It can exacerbate sleep problems.

PS - also B12

PPS - How much stress are you under lately? Are you able to fall asleep and then wake up or the other way around?

Hi Karen

Thanks for your concern...

I go to bed the same time every night ( 9:30 ish) - fall asleep within 5 - 10 minutes and then wake up between 1 to 3 hours later....and then I am up for the night.....sometimes if I am lucky I can get back to sleep around 4:30....but the alarm goes at 5:30 so I end up with little sleep

Stress is about the same....

My iron was great back in April - and I feel energetic other than the lack of sleep

Thanks Doc

Barb

Sounds extremely familiar to what I go through.  No clue "why" I would wake up, but then would have thoughts/worries racing while awake and couldn't fall back to sleep.  Finally had to see a doc about it, as it didn't seem to be the vitamin thing, but hey, you never know. Now I have to take some meds before bed to stay asleep unfortunately.  But at least I'm sleeping.  Hope the melatonin works - I know it's works for lots of people.

thanks Karen - I will let you know re the melatonin

Will see the doc if it goes on much longer - I just dont want to have to take a sleeping pill every night- can you sleep without them?

Not very well, no.  If I'm exhausted and fall asleep without taking it (by accident, read: nod off on the couch), then I'm awake a couple of hours later and stay awake.  At that point, I won't take one because I'll have a "hangover" in the morning due to taking it too late.  I don't like having to take something either, trust me.  But I couldn't go on the way I was not sleeping.  I never did try the melatonin - I think I'll pick some up and try it this weekend, see if it does anything.

Re: Insomnia

I'm having the same problems as you two, and my remedy has been an over-the-counter one.
Because i have mild hayfever, I need to take some sort of antihistamine. Getting "Non-drowsy" has always been a priority UNTIL NOW.

So I purchased liquid Benylin, took half the prescribed dose, and it works like a charm. I now get about 5-6 hours per night, which is way better than the 2-3 hours I was getting previously.

Of course, it doesn't help that my CPAP no longer fits properly - scheduled for another sleep test in September. Since I was first fitted for the mask, I've lost 87 pounds. Stands to reason that this would make a difference.
