Water Intake

I thought I was getting all 8 cups of water/liquid in each day.  I count the milk I'm using in my protein drink, as well as the Boost I still drink on occasion (finishing off what I bought).

Today, I grabbed a different cup than I usually use, and after 2 full cups, I decided to measure the amount of water.  To my surprise, instead of 8 oz, it was only 6 oz.  I then pulled out my usual cup - and found out that instead of 16 oz, it's only 12 oz!!  I was completely surprised - and now I think I know why my back's been sore.  Dehydration!  I thought I was getting in all 64 oz, but was probably only getting 40-50.  Makes a big difference.

So, this is just my friendly way of telling everyone to not assume that a drinking cup = 8 oz.  Measure it to be sure.  And if you can't measure, assume it's less than 8 oz.  Better to get in more than required than less.

Cheers!

great advice... I like the sports bottles that have the measurements on the side... or the stainless ones that have the measurements on the bottom..

I have 3 bottles I drink from ... I LOVE the Rubbermaid ones with the flip top.. the mouth of the bottle is wide ehough to get ice in there if I need to freshen up the water.

Guelph had a urine chart up... basically if your urine is clear or almost clear you are getting enough anything else you need to up your water intake

short story... I was at Darien Lake a few weeks ago and just got them to keep topping up my ice in my bottle.. I dont know exactly how mch I drank that day but I know I was drinking filtered water all day and not paying for the bottled water price..

There could be another reason for your sore back.  As you lose weight, your centre of gravity changes and I think it takes the body a while to adjust.

i agree with the other posters. if your pee is the right colour, you're getting enough fluids. Don't just assume your back pain is because of dehydration.

Centre of gravity is another good explanation for it. Your core is likely not in very good shape at all..., i know mine isnt.

But, yes, very good information, not to assume that a cup = a cup.

Thanks for the input.  I hadn't thought of my centre of gravity changing, but I guess it would!  I spent most of yesterday and this morning standing (baking and decorating 2 cakes for DH's work) and my back and front are sore, like I've been doing sit-ups.  Guess I need to book myself in for a massage.
