I am using Voltaren - no side effects.

Full body rub...preferably by a very talented, strong, attractive and scantily clad person.

Check with your program to be sure, but I've read on here instructions from some of the Ontario surgeons (in particular Anvari) who has said that any rub with NSAIDs will have such a miniscule amount that will travel through the blood stream to the stomach that it isn't worth being concerned about it. So use whatever will work best for you. I'd desribe the ache to the pharmacist and see what she recommends.

I recently read somewhere that external rubs really only give you the impression that they're helping, and dont really DO anything to help your aches and pains.

stretching is key. You should be stretching about 10 minutes for every hour that youre exercising

a hot bath with about a cup or so of epsom salts, after exercise, will help with your muscle aches.

a massage will definitely help.  The more muscular and scantily clad he is, the better. It's nice if he has an accent too.

I have the world's greatest massage therapist... he works at the Elmwood spa in downtown Toronto if anyone wants his info, pm me (and yes, he is cute and VERY strong).

I was reading something recently about stretching, it said that stretching post-run is the most effective time to do it, so that is something to consider if you've been stretching beforehand. Stretching your muscles cold can actually strain them, so walk for a few minutes to warm up before doing any stretching if you like to do it before.

I was told by the Ottawa clinic not to use Voltaren due to the NSAID content.  Actually, they told me that I am not to use any topical solutions containing NSAIDS.  I use one of the Lakota formulas (one without willow bark, as it is has NSAID-like properties).  You might want to check with the pharmacist about the ingredient list on the  A535.

Willow bark = Aspirin. It IS an NSAID. That said, I still think it is ok based on what Dr. Anvari has told other patients in the past. Ask your surgeon and a pharmacist if you want to be sure.

I have used Traumeel for a number of years. You get it from Health Food Stores. It has done me a world of wonders for many years. Oh, just looking at their website it says it is now available in Shoppers Drug Mart.
