Psych Assessment TWH

What's the difference between the social work assessment and the psych assessment?

I'm seeing Sarah Royal for my assessment but I've never heard anyone talk about her.  Is she a psychologist or a psychiatrist?

I don't know about Dr. Royal in particular, but they do have both Psychiatrists and Clinical Psychologists, so she is one or the other!
The Psych assessment will focus less on your social supports and more specifically on your mental health history. It is very detailed and looks at all kinds of mental health issues past and present for yourself and close family; eating disorders, drug/alcohol issues, affective disorders, psychotic disorders, etc. and will ask you about previous and on-going counselling, meds, diagnoses, etc. It's more medical in its nature and will ask about specific behaviours and thoughts.
Mine was about 50 minutes and we really only discussed the surgery itself and stress related to that for about the last ten minutes. Basically it's a screening to ensure that there are no serious, active mental health issues that would be a barrier to your being successful post-op.

Also, given that you work in mental health, you might be familiar with some of the scales or what it is they are looking for or getting at with some of the questions. Just answer quickly and try not to think about each question too much.
