Hey everyone~ so I'm two weeks out now. I'm feeling O.K but I'm not altogether sure how I'm doing compared to where I'm supposed to be at.

I know I am supposed to have started puree food by now but I'm having a hard time keeping myself hydrated right now food is second priority. Between trying to drink water and protien drinks. I don't feel like theres enough time in the day to try to eat something new. Also, there really is just no way in hell anyone is going to get me to eat puree meat. It just seems super nasty to me lol. I'm wondering if it would be all that bad to try a scrambled egg now...and just chew it really well... I'm kinda nervous to try anything as well because I hattteee feeling sick. but it's gotta happen sometime.

so many times i thought why did i do this to myself. thinking of how there may be foods that i can never eat again. Its not that I want to go back to eating the way i was its just that i plan to travel alot and i want to be able to try different things if im offered and food is a big part of culture. so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that i wont be someone who gets dumping syndrome.

my surgery date isnt until sept., 7th but down in toronto at the bariatric center I met so many people who had just had the surgery from 1-10 months post op and everyone of them told me not to worry about the eating (I explained how i was afraid of being hungry) and probably at least 12 people told me not to worry about it that it would be all I could do to keep hydrated and get the protien in, and I probably wouldn't even be eating much during the puree part

I hear you girl It is a full time job LOL. The only way I am able to get all my fluid and protein drink in Is to take a new protein drink on ice and diluted juice on ice to bed with me and drink everytime I wake up. hope this helps. On a side note giving up a few foods and have a full and healthy life seems like an easy trade. There will still be lots of amazing foods you can eat. I have been fortunate and have travelled a fair bit and there are almost always healthy delicious cultural choices

I hear you about the pureed meats... not something I really want to tempt.  I have been eating some cottage cheese every day - I just use the emulsion blender on it to help break it up, and it is nice and smooth.  Like you, I am thinking about trying a scrambled egg sometime this weekend - it would make a nice difference.

Liquids is also one of my biggest challenges - but I think we can count pretty much everything we eat in the full fluids toward that count.  It may not be water, but protein drinks, milk etc should all count toward our fluid goal.

Glad to see things are going well for you.  I finally lost my surgery weight gain, damn all those fluids they pumped into me!

So far, I haven't had any foods that my pouch has complained about, but then I am not too adventureous in my eating regime.  I may try some pureed veggies this weekend too.

Good luck with your scrambled egg... I hope it sits well.  It's always so exciting to move on to the next phase of food, until you look at the list, and don't see anything too appetizing.  It is probably a good idea however to start introducing these new foods, one at a time, to prepare your pouch for the next phase to come.

Take care.

If you're making pureed chicken, make sure you add some liquid to the blender, otherwise it's pretty bad, and pretty dry.  You could add chicken broth or water, or some greek yogurt - just something to wet it down.  (My personal favourite was baby chicken - for some reason, I really like that stuff!)  As for scrambled egg, sometimes it can be too rubbery - makes me remember how my mother used to cook scrambled eggs when she babysat my babies.  She'd do it in a double boiler - the egg always came out moist and creamy - delicious.

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.
