protein energy bars
They're handy as backup foods if you get the right ones. Many energy bars are loaded in sugar, and many of those that aren't are loaded with sugar alcohols. I aim for 18 g of protein or more, less than 5 grams of actual sugars, less than 15 grams of carbs, less than 200 cals and prefer those with as few sugar alcohols as possible. Oh, and watch the kind of protein too... many bars are soy based, not whey or cassein based. For me that's bad b/c of Thyroid and PCOS, but in generally soy is estrogenic and I think we have way too much estrogen retention and production going on to make more if I have a choice.
These days, Quest bars are my favorite, but I had to special order them to the states while I was there. They are expensive and even more so if getting them sent to Canada. The local ones I buy are Pure Protein bars at Costco.
