O/T - Brave or Stupid

Last night, I got home from work at 1:15 am.  I often am not tired enough to go right to bed so I end up watching tv for awhile.  I got into a couple of shows, and the next thing I knew it was nearly 3am.  I turned everything off, and went to brush my teeth.  While in the bathroom, I could hear voices, as if someone was talking outside.  The problem is, the bathroom is on the driveway side of the house, behind a fenced in yard.  There is only one small portion of our backyard that isn't fenced in, and you have to know it's there.  We live at the end of a court, so I know it's not coming from the street.

So, I hear these voices and start to freak out a little.  I go to the front of the house and look out the blinds.  I can't see anything, but I can still hear the voices.  2 people talking casually.  I hear them in the neighbours driveway, so I peek out that window - can't see anything.

The voices go away.  All is good.  Then I hear them again, coming up the street.  I watch them thru the blinds, and see them start to turn up our driveway.  In a moment of bravery/stupidity, I opened the front door, and yelled, "This is private property, not a shortcut!"  I know I startled them.  The one guy said, "Sorry, ma'am", and they headed back down the street.  (If this had happened in the summer, our black lab would have scared the sh*t out of them!)

By the time I got back to the bathroom, I was shaking.  I crawled into bed and told my DH what happened.  I don't think he was awake enough to understand what I did, but I did say we have to do something about that fence ... soon.

So, Brave  Canadian mountie smile    or Stupid  ?  A little of both?

Wow your are BRAVE and well a little STUPID. Depends on your area and where in the city you live.   I don't think I would have done that but then again you never know.  You def have some "balls" on you.

ahahaha, you are too funny.......but to answer you, you are not stupid at all....lol...it depends also where you live....where I live, i rarely lock the doors...lol...but if I were in TO, then I would be shakin' in my boots...lol...don't know how I would react.  You did that in a moment of heat...you probably did well cuz if they started, it would probably get worse (more kids)

Good job girl!
Finish that fence...lol

I dunno which but I've done similar when we lived in Brampton, and my hubby worked nights - our dog growled and i got up and saw someone standing in my driveway right at the side door.  I opened the door and asked him what the f__k do you think you're doing.  The dog started barking and he ran down the drive.  I dialled 911 and made them come anyway.

Then there was the time 2 weeks ago i went to pick up my son to find him having just been jumped and a guy was pounding on him - I dialled 911 and then got out of the car yelling at him while talking to the police .

Of course hubby thought I was stupid going to the door and he was probably right but I'd do it again.  I won't take crap  - we back onto a junior school and a few times in the summers I've been woken by people partying in the parking lot - i call the cops, they come and tell them to leave.  Sorry but too many young people have no sense of decency.

I live in Hamilton on the Mountain.  It's a safe neighbourhood, but we have had our van ransacked a couple of times by a former neighbour's kid (hubby keeps forgetting to lock the damn doors!), but nothing stolen.  I guess they didn't want our CD collection - The Wiggles and Garth Brooks!

Knowing where you live Beth, I'd say definitely brave but relatively little risk involved so NOT stupid!

Hey I would have done the same thing.
Like you said, they were talking casually, so the threat wasn't there, but it sounds like you were a bit scared when you told them to go somewhere else.

scared stupid, it's creepy just the same.
