Venting - sometimes I wish ...

I think wls is a very personal decision and it may not be right for her, especially if she has strong negative feelings about it.  Some people prefer to stay morbidly obese and not take the risks because it doesn't make sense to them.  Some people do regain all or most of their weight...and not a year or two out, but after 5 or 10 years out.  So the fear of that is real and everyone considering wls should be aware of it.

I'm in the live and let live category, so while its great to share your success story, I think you have to respect other people's personal life choices.  Her stance against wls should in no way infringe on your right to celebrate your success.  Likewise, she should be respectful of the pride you feel over the success you've had.  lol, I know it isn't a perfect world, but ideally this is how I would want it.

I think fat people have enough shame and stigma heaped upon them by the world, so we should always try and be kind to one another even when we agree to disagree. (and I am in no way saying that you weren't kind, just stating that sometimes ugliness happens when there are judgements throw around by both sides of the wls debate)

It sounds like you did plant the seed as someone mentioned above, and she will either cultivate the seed and grow it into action or let it die.

Jennifer D That is exactly what I was going to say. I was one of those people. When my niece had wls 3 yrs ago I was very opposed. Merely out of ignorance and lack of knowledge. To be honest a percentage of jealousy to?
I have lately felt that fat people are around me everywhere. All I can think was omg was I that big. I tried not to look at myself so who knows. I am an open book so if someone asks or gives me a compliment I talk about it. I seem to be the WLS go to gal as sooo many woman are asking me about the process and how I feel and how great I look. I love my rny!!

What's the saying? You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

Some people will reject it because of a hundred different excuses, some very valid, some not. But even if you mention it, it perhaps plants a seed for them to consider privately later.

It's their life to live and some people grow comfortable and complacent with their obesity. I did. A few years back, I would have never considered surgery.

Maybe you did help her.  But only she can initiate change.
