My Luck is WEIRD this week.

I just had something really great happen to me after a horrendous week.
If you have me on facebook you would know that my son Jacob who is 5 years old fell seriously ill this week with something called Serum Sickness and he got a pretty severe case with it. The thing about it is that it happens to 1 in 10 million people - because of this most doctors will never see it in their entire medical career - and because of that we went through several doctors each one diagnosing it as something different before we finally found ourselves at the hospital where after 18 hours in the ER he was diagnosed with Serum Sickness - he was quite seriously ill and has a risk of relapse within the next 2-3 weeks - today his symptoms are slowly creeping in again. My husband and I have been quite stressed trying to manage care for our son and taking care of our daughter as well as careers so we're both burning our candles at both ends so to speak.
Well today I left my son anxiously behind with my mother-in-law because I had my follow up appointment to my Sleep Study and as it turns out I don't have sleep apnea - awesome. : ) That was the first good news I've heard all week - at the end of the appointment the doctor asked me when my Psych appointment was scheduled and I told him it was for November 7th - he opened my file and read through it right in front of me - then asked if I had a half hour to spare because he is a neuro-psychiatrist and on the TWH team and could easily do my psych appointment right there and get that checked off the list - since he didn't have an appointment that day after me. I blinked at him and almost cried from excitement - not many good things have been happening for us this week - so lucky me - I got to have my psych appointment a whole month early!! Yeah!!
Maybe I need to buy a lottery ticket this week!

How lucky for you! Definitely buy the lottery ticket. lol
Sorry to hear about your son - serum sickness is awful. My own son had it when he was about 2 1/2 due to a severe allergic reaction to amoxycillan. Incredibly scary - I sincerely hope he's on the mend.

Karen - Jacob's was from the drug Cefprozil - and he was already one day past being done the whole 10 days of the antibiotics so we had no CLUE that it was from the antibiotics until a doctor asked us if he had taken antibiotics recently. Jacob had already gotten to the stage where he had arthritis in his swollen hips and knees, head to toe hives and rashes, incredibly high fever, and abdominal pain... they say Serum Sickness symptoms start 10-21 days after the drug starts.
Yep, sounds just like Jesse's experience. I was horrified when he could no longer walk. The hives were so bad that they bruised his poor skin. Poor Jacob - you're all in my thoughts. xo

No, thankfully. We learned damned quick that the ONLY antibiotic he can ever have is Suprax.

Ah Melissa, I'm so sorry to hear that your son has been so sick - I've never heard of Serum Sickness - poor little guy! I will definitely say some prayers for him! I have a 5 year old grandson and they are still such "babies" to me at that age (even though they are quick to tell you that they are "big boys"...lol). It must be such a juggling act, taking care of Jacob, your daughter, work and your medical needs - I hope that you have some help from friends & family.
What a nice guy that doctor was to do that for you so that you can check that off your list & I'm so glad to hear that you don't have sleep apnea. Yep, better pick up a lottery ticket - sounds like your luck is improving........
