What Type of Calcium do i buy?

Hi, This is my first post asking for information.  I went out shopping this weekend to pick up the vitamins, etc.  I have been reading the posts and found a lot of hints, so thank you. 
My questions is about calcium.  I first bought the liquid kind and then realized that i would have to take 4 tablespoons twice a day, so it will be returned to Costco.  I bought Calcium Chews (life brand) at SDM.  I also bougth Calcium Carbonagte Chewable from SDM, life brand.  I wanted to try different ones. Then i read somewhere that am not suppossed to use the carbonate.  So, are both of these kinds not the right type?  I am looking for the chewable ones.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

You need calcium citrate

Caltrate chewable tabs with vitamin D were on at SDM for $9.99 usually $19.99. Keep an eye on weekly flyers. I have been told by stock people at SDM that things with vitamin D usually go up in price thru winter due to demand. I'm stocking up!!!!

I believe that caltrate products are carbonate. Wrong form of calcium for us

You cannot get citrate in a chewable form - so i asked the dietician at TWH - you can use chewable carbonate until you are able to take the citrate pills whole usually after 6-8 weeks

Thank you all for the information.  I think i will stick with the chewables that i bought today.  I am going through TWH, so it should be okay.

QUEST makes a CalMag that is chewable and citrate, but is kinda gritty. It's spearament flavoured. These are the ones I took right after surgery.

Bariatric advantage has a line of chews that are citrate and yummy in a lemon and a caramel flavour, but expensive and hard to get cross border. I have a couple of bags of these. it's what i eep in my purse for when I am on the go.

Another good option is powdered Calcium Citrate. You just mix it your water. You can get it at Well.ca with free shipping.

Did I buy the wrong thing?  I bought the Jamieson Mega Cal Calciun Chews & the ingredient list shows both Calcium Citrate & Calcium Carbonate??????

Here's part of what it say:
"Calcium 650 mg; (from calcium carbonate, calcium, citrate, calcium malate, calcium fumarate, and calcium succinate)"

I wouldn't take those, no.  You need a complete citrate pill. I take Citrical.  If I have trouble swallowing them (some days I just do for some reason lol)  I just crunch them up and sip some water.  They don't taste of anything at all.

Thanks Karen. I noticed that Citrical brand also has one called Citrical Petites, which would likely be small enough to take after surgery (have to check this out). I'll look into that as well as the amount of calcium in each pill. Otherwise, you're right - I can just crush them & add to applesauce or sip water to get them down.
