Sleep Study Results
I had my sleep study way back in April, but was told that I didn't need a CPAP and left it at that. A few months later, I get an appt card for a results meeting. Okay?
It was on Thursday. I thought it was just a short confirmation of "don't need one", but it's not. I had to breath into a machine which measures lung capacity, measurements (chest, hips, waist) and do blood pressure before seeing the doctor. Then I saw Dr. Gottschalk. Nice man.
He told me that my lungs are wonderful (he high 5'ed me!) - I have a lung capacity of 112% (in other words, more capacity than average), and that's why, even though I had mild apnea, I didn't need a CPAP. Even though I would skip a breath occasionally, I have enough oxygen in my lungs to deal with it. Guess all those years playing the flute helped.
He also said that my weight loss was the major factor towards my not having apnea anymore! I also have a slightly deviated septum in my left nostril, but it's not worth fixing, just use Nazonex when I have a cold.
Overall, he was very pleased with me and how I was doing. I felt feeling great!

In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

I have had a CPAP machine now for about 2 1/2 yrs. They made me redo my sleep study last spring to check my levels before surgery but then nobody has mentioned it again.
Just wondered if there is a point or neck measurement or something that triggers you not having to wear your CPAP anymore.

My bro has it extremely bad and needs one. He stopped breathing for over 2 min when he had his sleep test. Woke up to the nurses beating on his chest!

MY RNY DIDN'T FAIL ME - I FAILED IT.

When I got my CPAP machine, I asked my sleep doctor whether losing weight would help. He said it might, but often it doesn't, and people just need to use the machines for good.
I've been using my machine for a while. It was a bit uncomfortable at first, but now I kind of like it. I really enjoy having all that air!
