Hey there,

I go to St. Mike's for November 24th for my surgery and am trying to set up a motel room for close by for my companion.  Can anybody give me a recommendation of a good, cheaper motel for us please.  I'm also considering staying down there for a week to stay close and not have to go back for my week after follow up.

Thanks in advance everyone.

I met a woman a few months ago going there for surgery and she said that Bond Place Motel gave her a great price for her hospital rate.

If you decide to try to book there, you are better to call than to try and book online.  Also not sure if St. Mike's does this for patients but when I take my mom to Mt. Sinai, I get the social worker at the hospital to book a room as sometimes the hotel will say yes to her and no to me for the same date.  Just a thought in case you have trouble booking for that length of time.

Some of the hotels i would suggest are the Bond Place, The Delta Chelsea, the colony on Jarvis or the Primrose and there is also a Holiday Inn on King Street which is only a short streetcar drive away. I would definately contact someone at the hospital to see if they have anyone who can help you. I work at Mt Sinai and our department of Social work will book rooms for patients/families and the hotels give the best deals they can for our patients. I would be surpised if St Mikes doesn't have a patient relations or social worker to assist. Good luck

excellent suggestions ladies thanks.  When I was going to TWH I booked at the Super 8 on Spadina and got a great hospital rate there and so wish I was just going there as it was comfy and I was used to the area and all.

The Super 8 is only about a 5 minute drive to St. Mike's or you could take the streetcar right down Queen and be there in no time.  Super 8 is clean and cheap for sure.

doing my research thru google looks like Bond place is around the same price without a discount that i was getting the motel room at the super 8 for with the discount.  Mind you this was for a week so will have to tinker with stuff a bit more here and decide what i'm going to do.

Just a caution about the area around St. Mike's at night. I don't know if your companion is very familiar and comfortable with Toronto and the downtown at night. It's not that its terribly dangerous, but St. Mike's is the main hospital where major traumas go (meaning, a lot of gang violence related matters) and is adjacent to a large park known for night-time drug-dealing. I would just exercise caution. The Delta Chelsey is a little farther north, but still extremley accessible via a 10 minute walk or the Bay St. bus, or the subway and is a nicer area (I live directly across the street from it) and is also within a block of two Shoppers drug marts, one 24-hours. It also has a great pub, and lots of take-out places right on Yonge and has a pool in the hotel. If they will give you a reasonable rate, I'd highly recommend them. Otherwise, the Hilton Garden Inn on Dundas at Jarvis will include breakfast and I believe also has a pool, my sister stayed there once and found them quite comfortable and got an excellent rate. It would be east walking distance and might be worth checking out.

Pat is right on.  I would recommend the Delta Chelsea.  I also live in the area and would not walk around St. Mike's or the Bond Hotel at night.
