one month post op (a little long)
It is so hard to believe I had surgery a month ago. Both because I feel so good and because it is all kind of surreal.
I weighed and measured yesterday. I am down 30 pounds and I have lost a total of 24 inches!!! No wonder my clothes are falling off!
I saw my surgeon on Monday and he was very pleased with my results. He would like me to start aquacise classes (when I can go, they are during the day so I can only go on days I don't work) and building up my walking endurance.
I started back to work last Thursday and it has been crazy busy ever since. My first day back was supposed to be a half day, but turned into a whole day plus an emergency meeting after school that lasted until 6:30. I worked Friday as well. Then Monday I went to Toronto for my surgeon's appointment then stayed down for a conference from Tuesday until Thursday (long days!!!) Next week is going to be just as crazy (teaching a grade three class on Halloween, three meetings on Tuesday with a two hour drive to the first one, a one hour drive to the second and third one and then a one hour drive home...will leave at 7am and get home around 9pm...then off to the Bariatric clinic on Thursday for followup with nurse and dietician, then a conference on Friday and Saturday).
But it is nice to be back to work.
I started soft solids this week and it is going well. I stopped at the Low Carb Grocery on my way home yesterday and got some sugar free BBQ sauce to add flavour to all my bland foods! I am going to try canned fruit today...very excited!!!
I can't say enough about how wonderfully supported I feel, both by my friends and family and everyone here on OH and even virtual strangers. While there were a few doubters before I had the surgery, everyone since has been great. People tell me I am glowing and look happier than I ever have. Many are noticing my weight loss. I had dinner with a big group at one of my meetings this week. I told them all because I knew I would be eating such a tiny amount of food. They asked a million questions (none judgemental) and were really excited for me. The rest of the conference they kept checking in on me to make sure I was handling my new food (solids) okay.
The three weeks before surgery (Optifast) and the first few weeks after surgery were so out of the ordinary, but now life is settling back into a routine...and it is a new life for me. I couldn't be happier. No regrets, no pressure (I will lose the weight, really not obsessing on how fast or slow it happens) and lots to look forward to!!!

Great to hear you're doing so well, Tracy. Just curious - I notice you work in a school. Teacher? Office? I am the purchasing secretary in a high school. They call me the Mermanator!
Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.
RNY on 02/09/12
Congratulations on your successes thus far.
You are such a trooper. Funny how that jumping in at work comes naturally to many of us...
Just remember to listen to your body. Keep it up I am sure I speak for everyone when I say we are looking forward to seeing pictures of the "new you" once you feel comfortable taking some.
Congrats again,
Di
