How to get back on track?

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can get back on track...I have had RNY it will be 2 years in March and have lost 95 pounds however I seem to be falling off the wagon with my eating habits...I enjoy eating bagels and carbs and I know it's not the greatest thing for me...I do also eat tons of fruits and veggies but lacking on the protein. Also I seem to always be hungry...and that is a very scary thought for me because everytime I feel hungry I keep thinking here we go I will gain all this weight back and I do not want to be where I was at 2 years ago but even thinking that it doens't seem to be enough...

Any thoughts would be great as I am getting desperate and honestly contemplating using my hubby's Optifast left overs to see if I cannot get that satisfaction of being full ...

Thanks you!

If you are only 2 years out, are you still not part of a clinic ?

I know the Guelph clinic offers 5 years of support.

Do yourself a favour and call your clinic and take it from there.

Write everything down taht you put in your mouth.

Go to a support meeting. Talk to people who have been where you are.

Get an appointment with your dietitian.

get some regular exercise.

Eliminate carbs. Go back to the basics. PROTEIN FIRST.

Optifast won't help you at this stage, except with some short term weight loss. You need to change those eating habits.

GO BACK TO BASICS!

Dont get down on yourself. You're human. it happens. Pick yourself up and start over.

Low protein intake will lead to feeling hungry all the time.  I echo Monica's advice: protein first.  Our bodies need a certain amount of carbs, but it might be a good idea to do a couple of weeks of carb cleansing (get rid of them) to break the bagel habit.  There is a ton of research showing that food tracking is a key element in long-term success.  And it probably wouldn't hurt to contact your clinic and arrange to see the NUT and the behaviourist.

I know that one thing guaranteed to make me feel like eating is getting down on myself.  Do yourself a favour and try not to focus on the backsliding; instead, focus on from today forward.  Asking for help is very hard to do, and you've done it today.  You can get back on track!  Good luck!

Thank you

My clinic is in Detroit Michigan and being that I am in Ottawa Ontario I cannot make it out there..I have tried to contact the Ottawa Civic and have met with Dr Dent but he refused to take me as a "patient" since I went down to the states to have my surgery so I am kind of on my own...My husband is having his surgery on Monday November 7th so I will try and follow the plans that he gets and go to his meetings because I have noticed that I lack a lot of information that they didnt give me when I was out in Detroit.

I am down today but will get back up and hopefully can let go of my Bagel addiction LOL

I find the need to say that I am only 7 pounds away from my weight goal of 115 pounds but still...with these eating habits ...anyways thank you so very much for the support!

You've gotten some good advice.  Post here and let us know how you're doing, post and answer questions that others have (I find this helps me stay on track immensely), post on the "what are you eating today" thread... etc.  :)

find a support group in your area, if you're not eligible for follow up with a WLS centre. Quit the bagels cold turkey (lol in fact, substitute turkey for the bagel lol)

Do you come to the support group meetings?  There is one tonight for everyone (pre and post op) and then there is another one that is intended for folks who are farther out from their surgery, like you.  Check the posts for details or contact Terry45.

Hi there

It is hard to get back on track, but you can do it. Some things that have been said here are very helpful. Take a look at the Plateau Buster I just posted. That may help as well

Take care
