 Thanks for sharing Karen.
Will be interesting now with all of us Ontario patients being tracked for the next 5 years by the registry what the results will be down the road.

I agree, Char.  Really looking forward to learning the outcomes.  I've seen so many friends here have great success - just wish the long-term stats were more.... long-term. lol

OHIP uses this 'Gold Standard' nonsense as justification for not providing education about the other WLS. I think there is a basis for a class action against OHIP for not obtaining informed consent before surgery as they only educate on the RNY and people are not even made aware of alternatives. The Ottawa centre has been formally wrist slapped for this policy in an Appeal Board Hearing where Dr. Dent tried to justify their position by lying about the DS.

Amazing what goes on just below the surface, eh?

Uh huh, I know.  I just wanted to start an intelligent discussion. I'm always interested in others' opinions since I learn something every time, and this was my "Hmm... I wonder what other people think" of the day.  :)

I was thinking about this more and more during lunch and I have a question...if RNY is Gold...how do they rank the other options??

Silver goes to... VSG.  DS takes the Bronze, and poor Lapband didnt make the podium.

The more I think about it the more ridiculous it seems to rate one "Gold Standard".

Ask any Ds'r - it's PLATINUM.  :D

On a serious note, I don't rank any of them.  I just wish the best for everyone and hope that they get what they need.

By the way, the band works great for some people - look at Tracey, for instance. :)

I agree about the band.  I know a lot of bandsters who have had great success.  And it's right up there with VSG/DS - I wish OHIP would let people choose what they want.

Me too, Simona.  Of course, people actually CAN choose what they want - if they're willing to pay for it themselves.  Also, I have heard band patients say that they are glad that OHIP doesn't cover it, as they feel it would diminish the excellent aftercare that they receive from their private clinics.
