Post Surgical Well-Being
VSG on 01/25/12
I know that a lot of time people come here for support so there are quite frequently posts about the complications that people are experiencing post-op but I was wondering also if there is anyone who simply had the surgery and has felt primarily great since then i.e no real complications and a general over all feeling of wellness?
Remember, most of us will experience some kind of "complications" down the line ---- mostly deficiencies of some sort or another especially the further out we are. we will experience also side effects of surgery itself but it doesn't mean that we aren't healthy or happy.
I've had a fairly small number if issues -- nothing I consider to be life altering - just needed to adjust something.
3 months out--iron deficient, supplemented, resolved
1 year out-- osteopenia, changed meds
2 years -- reactive hypoglycemia
2 years out- iron deficient
4 years out - iron again
5 years out- iron
Nothing particularly life changing or unmanageable.
Feeling good enough to walk my third consecutive half marathon ( with low iron--- no less!!!!

Well I can say that other than some post op pain for the first 4 weeks (nothing that couldn't handle) I felt absolutely great for the first 5 weeks. Now back to work and have had very long days and figuring out how to eat when at conferences etc my pouchy is a little grouchy for the first time since surgery. I know it is d/t not eatting right at supper last night so just taking it easy with yorgurt and applesauce.
Little tired d/t extra long days and driving 4 hr a day but that's to be expected. Absolutely thrilled with the way things are going.

Hoping I don't jinx myself by saying this, but at four months post-op: no nausea, no vomiting, no deficiencies, no strictures, no infections... nothing at all.
A few stalls. Biggest complication would be a pulled groin from moving too much too fast.
More importantly, no more diabetes, no more high cholesterol, no more high blood pressure and no more irritable bowel syndrome.
I give the whole thing a thumbs-up from my perspective

I'm 10 months out and at my 3 month check up blood work showed low iron and vitamin a.... 6 month follow up iron normal but vitamin a was still low (now taking 10,000iu 2 times a week) everything else is WONDERFUL!!! after the surgery there was no need for pain killers as it was manageable, there were no complications (unless you count constipation!) and everything healed well.... no puking, foamies, dumping etc - over all thrilled with the results thus far (175lbs lost!)

Since I have been home post op I am nervous to say (incase I jinx myself) I have been able to drink my 64 oz plus a day, and get 60-80 gms of protein in. I'm only 3 weeks out. I so far feel fantstic, learning to eat differently, cook differently and most of socialize with people/food. I am enjoying the journey and watching the scales go down. Most of all looking at a healthier future. Diane
Will take a kayaking trip summer 2012, freedom
I had my surgery on a Thurs and Friday morning I had the morphine pump taken off cause I only used it a few times. When Dr Reed came in he said he wouldn't even have known I had surgery if he hadn't done it. Went home on the Saturday and never even had to take any more pain meds.
I have never thrown up, very few things don't agree with me (bread mainly), I don't dump which could be good or bad. Went to my Staff Christmas party and had 2 small bites of my sisters cheesecake and it was enough never felt deprived at all.
Only issue I have had at all has been some constipation and I can deal with that.
By far the best thing I have ever done to take control of my life back. I can go up my 2 flights of stairs carrying laundry and not even be out of breath, before I would have to wait a bit between flights. I feel fantastic!

Like the others, don't want to jinx myself lol.
Surgery went well, came home and really havn't had any issues. A week after I was at the lacrosse arena watching games and back to managing our team. Nothing could keep me away lol.
I generally felt great. I am six months out today and just had all my bloodwork done so will see how that turns out.
We have had major surgery so that can come with some issues but generally I have felt amazing.
