Really OT: But I'd like to share if I may....
I never post asking for positive thoughts or well wishes for others, but I was wondering if you all could keep a warm thought glowing for a young friend of mine today.
This is Aleck. He is the son of a good friend of Joe's and mine, Tom. He's a good kid, a fabulous talented little hockey player, and only 13 years old.
A few short months ago Aleck was diagnosed with the same kind of cancer that Terry Fox had, and in the same location. Aleck has been living through treatments and pure hell since then. Today he will have surgery to remove his tibia, replace it with his fibula and insert a titanium rod in the hopes of stopping the cancer. It's a 12 hour operation at the least and he'll continue chemo for several months afterward as well.
Needless to say, his hockey dreams have been replaced with a hope that he will live.
Below is a photo of Aleck with Wayne Gretzky, taken as part of a photo shoot a couple of weeks ago for a Canada Trust ad, fundraising for cancer and Sick Kids in Toronto. He was beyond thrilled to get to meet "the great one"!
Anyway, I'm starting to get a bit teary here and I need to stay positive today. So, if you're able, please save a small place in your heart for Aleck today. He's a good boy. We need Aleck in our lives.
Many thanks.
Aleck with his hero!

Awwwwe, Karen,
I'm sending all my well wishes and prayers his way. This brought a tear to my eye. Cancer is a horrible disease and it really upsets me when kids are affected. That just shouldn't happen. Ever.
And btw, what a cutie. He reminds me of my son.
