Overheard on Christmas Eve

I was at a Christmas Eve party and in the crowded room I heard from the other side "One thing I know for sure, is she will never be able to have that weight loss surgery again".

I flung my ears over into the conversation and they were talking about a friend who had the surgery in Toronto, lost a bunch of weight from 300 pounds, then slowly started gaining it all back because she was a heavy drinker and ate excessively when she was under the influence of alcohol!!  Apparently she ended up with holes in her stomach and needed to have the surgery reversed.

I actually like hearing stories like this.......reminds me sooo much about why following the rules post-op is mandatory.....same with talking to someone or getting emotional help if things start to sneak up on you like addiction!

i feel so badly for people who gain the weight back tho. Its so sad, when you do the most drastic thing, and then it fails, or you fail at it..

Definite reminder to stay on track and do the right things.

It's a really sad story Monica.

When i first heard it i started freaking out and had to pull my husband aside.  He was able to get me thinking rationally again but still i feel sad for this woman.

It is a very good reminder that the surgery isn't a "quick fix". I have even caught myself thinking "after I have the surgery, my weight issues will be solved". But I have to quickly remind myself that this is only a tool, not a solution. .

That's so sad.  My greatest fear is of gaining back the weight.  I know about 8 people who've had the surgery.  One has had significant regain.  Two started to regain but have now gotten it under control.  I would be afraid that if I started to overeat and stretched my pouch, I would never be able to lose the weight again and would be right back where I started. Very scary.

OH YEAH.
This is soooo scarey.

And over Christmas I haev NOT been a good girl, and I could just kick myself.
All this hard work and torment, and then gaining it back ...?

This is where my brain has to be retrained, and Christmas was a reminder that I am nowhere near where I should be on this.

Very sad, thats why I believe we should try and work out our food issues before we have our surgery.  This is not an easy process.
Breaks my heart that someone would go through this process and gain their weight back.
