How fast is too fast?

I know I've been having a really hard time post-op but my weight is just falling off of me and I am really concerned.  Should I be concerned or is it just par for the course?

Here is how my weight has looked since Optifast....

Optifast Start - December 28th   368
Surgery Day - January 25th 345
One week post op (which was yesterday)  332.4
Today  328.2

So I basically lost 4.2 pounds in 1 day?!?  I am peeing like crazy and had my period from the second I came out of surgery so is this all just bloating water weight coming off?

I haven't been taking in enough and I know this....I have a bad headache and I'm dizzy today so I'm trying super hard today to get more in.

It does come off very quickly at first.  Don't be alarmed.  Some can be water, but you're also eating very little, there's the malabsorption that occurs, the hormones that affect your loss.  It's your tool working for you, so appreciate what's happening.  Things will taper off after a few months, and eventually you'll get to where I am saying WTF, this isn't coming off like it used to!  So enjoy it and take advantage of it.

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

I'm just concerned because I have the VSG....so I don't have the malabsorbing factor.

You can lose quickly with the VSG too, Melissa.  Enjoy it, and remember when the dreaded stall happens that your body is just catching up.

There is some recent evidence that suggests that we RNY folks don't actually malabsorb calories.

You'll drop a lot of weight very quickly on either surgery because you have a higher caloric need due to a higher resting metabolic rate, and so therefore a bigger deficit now that you are under 1000 cals/day.

I had vsg and I lost fast in the beginning so try not to worry. Just try very hard to get in your liquids. Dehydration is what you need to avoid.
Just think of it as your full time job.

Cheering you on!

And aside from headaches and blurry vision, constipation will be a major problem if you're not hydrated anough.
And that is MISERABLE

Enjoy it Melissa. It will slow down. Don't worry about food. Drink as much as you can.

Headache and dizziness are signs of dehydration. Be careful.
