OMG! Girl I know exactly what you're going through! I was home for 3 days last week with the same problem. I try to avoid laxatives but I had to take them. I took Senokot. Worked...too well. Had the runs for days. Wish I could find something that worked daily.

I tried two types of suppositories (one more powerful than the other) then an enema and I tell you I honestly thought I was going to give birth. I was in agony- it was drama!!!
Went to my Dr. had a physical exam (omg) and she suggested Resorolax (or lax-A Day). She told me to take the daily does once an hour until movement!!! That was now months ago. I still have issues but they are way more under control.

Now I exercise every morning (really helps) drink drink drink and have upped my fibre intake. If you up your fibre it's really important to drink.

Sounds like this compound may be similar. The powder is Polyethylene glycol. It's white and dissolves in liquid.

Good luck!

I also have a huge constipation issues and the only thing that seems to work is 2 Senakot-S at bedtime (crushed and it tastes like sh*t) and Ducalux suppository in morning to get things moving... once the hard stuff is gone it is easier to eliminate the rest... and yes tons of vaseline and finger if needed... unfortunately you cannot help but strain it is the only way to get it out... the only thing with Ducalux is it puts your rectum into spams for hours... but you need that to clear house sort of speak.

Dear Lord we will all be signed up for rectal surgery once this weight loss is all done...

I guess what I find so difficult to understand is that if so so many of us are having constipation issues they should have a staged standardized protocol to deal with it... because if it wasn't for the constipation this journey so far has been pretty easy for me.

Don't be embarassed as If you read the main boards, any boards  this subject always comes up often...

Hope you clean house soon, Donna

When I get bunged up, I find that sometimes it needs a little push from the outside.  Use a glove or even just some TP, and kind of push on the lump of stuff from the outside to help it through the anus (you're kind of reshaping that big lump into a sausage).  Sometimes it's just too big to fit through without a little manual manipulation.  Gross/embarrassing subject, but very important one as well.

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

I had the same problem early out - like giving birth- I needed to use suppositories, and an enema.  I tried over the counter laxatives.

I ended up needing a laxative every week to keep things going for the first 9-10 months.  Gradually my system became much more regular-  even though my diet hasn't changed much.

Talk to your nut - they can give other suggestions.

This is one of the down-sides to wls.

Wanted to add...after the last bout of constipation last week I started eating 7 prunes at night [my sister's suggestion - her husband has these same issues] and that seems to have really helped. I know you're really early out and Im not sure if you can eat them but they do help and they're "natural" compared to laxatives and such.

Hi there, I know others have said not to do this, but when I was out of surgery, I hadn't gone in 7 days and I was told by the Ottawa WLC to take Milk of Magnesia and Ducolex suppositories at the same time (they help soften the stool).  I could tell that I had stool, but like others, it was too hard and big to go through.  I tried the MOM first, and it did clean me out, around the clog, but the Ducolex was able to soften it enough to get it through.

Lets put it this way, I don't want to go through that day again.  Just make sure you drink lots of water too.

You'll get through this, but I hope it will be soon for you.

You are very much not alone with this issue Melissa.

I have constant BM issues. I have tried sooo many different things to clean me out.
A few weeks ago I ended up in the ER, I thought I had a pulled muscle. I was quite shocked when I found out I was constipated again- I had no idea cuz I go everyday.

Since then I have added more fibre (bran) to my diet and more liquids. I have also added a probiotic capsule in the morning and a herbal laxative before bed. It seems to be helping.

Try not to be embarrassed. It happens to many of us.

Good luck.
