Protein shots/tubes

Hello friends,

Public Service Announcement:

I've seen quite a few posts lately about these protein shots and tubes.  Despite the fact that the ingredients *list* whey protein, the MAIN SOURCE OF PROTEIN IN THESE IS COLLAGEN.

Collagen, which is derived from animal fat, skin, hooves, etc.... UGH.... is NOT an appropriate source of protein for WLS patients.

Please choose wisely!

Karen

Thanks, Karen.

These are far TOO tempting to buy.  45g [or whatever the amt] of protein in a little shot...why not?!  But if it's not doing you any favors [no absorption] then you're wasting money.

wow that is good to know! I figured it was ok, because i think the person who mentioned them was told by their nutritionist to buy them??

Don't get me started on nutritionists vs. registered dietitions. lol

They recommend them because they are high in protein.  Just not the right KIND of protein, which many seem unaware of.

I just re read the thread and notice she said it was a post op (someoone in recovery??) not the nutritionist..

So does its tate on them that they are collagen? I didnt look very losely, just noticed them, picked it up, looked at the price and filed it in my brain for future referance..

Yes - it will list all of the kinds of protein in it.  If collagen is first - AVOID!  Companies have started calling them "whey protein shots" but they contain the *tiniest* bit of whey.  It's a marketing ploy.

I used liquid protein bullets for almost 3 months and it helped me while I was looking for a protein powder that I could stomach after trying close to 14 different types.

I didn’t suffer any long term adverse effect and it did NOT slow down my progress in any way.

I am not saying it’s the best choice…

BUT it’s better than absolutely NOTHING~!!

Thank you for the info. I have been searching for them, but i don't want to take them if they are bad for us.
