You make some good criticisms, and I actually share most of them with you, though they didn't impair my enjoyment of the movie to the same degree as you. Jennifer Lawrence actually lost 30lbs for the role, she's only about a size 4 and a tall one at that, but it's the way the camera adds weight that skews the look of a truly thin person, plus she has a round shaped face. I thought she captured the spirit well though. I would have liked a little more to show how she felt her 'relationship' with Peeta was all about the game and the scene in the book at the end where she raises her bow to him would have accomplished that well. One thing the movie did differently that I think I liked was how they handled the aftermath in District 11, gave a more political tinge that I think we'll see much more of (I have not yet read the next two books - I am forbidden from reading anything else until I finish my husband's 700 page manuscript for his novel. I had to sneak the first one in on a weekend right before we planned to see the movie). But judging it against other book to movie productions I still consider it quite highly. Did you think Woody Harrelson's portrayal of Haymitch was too sympathetic? I was disappointed in the costume design - the descriptions in the book are other-worldly and I felt let down, though I thought Lenny Kravitvz was a wonderful Cinna.

Woody did a good job of Haymitch, but yes, too sympathetic. (For how he was portrayed in the first book, anyway, it jives better with the way he comes across in the second, i'll leave it  at that)

Lenny Kravitz was awesome, as Cinna. Loved his characterization. He looked perfect too, as did Effie. She was fantastic. The costumes of the Capitol people were really well done, but, yes, other costumes lacked something, for sure.

I guess the movie did as well as other book to movie adaptations. I think i just read it too closely to seeing the movie. Usually there's a bit more of a gap between me reading and then seeing the movie. I did both the same weekend. The next two movies in the series will fare better in my review i think.

I agree with you both, Joyce & Monica - I'm almost finished the second book & will start on the third book tonight probably. It really grabs you and keeps your attention! My daughter just saw the movie & didn't like it that much - she was disappointed that a lot was left out, but that's the beauty of a book - it can hold so much more information. Plus, you can visualize the characters differently - when you see them on screen, often it's very different than what you pictured. I'm really loving the whole story!

Oh gawd yeah, been there, done that.  I worried about every damned booth, movie seat, airplane seat, lawn chair.... and with good reason.  You will be so LIBERATED when this isn't an issue anymore!

I totally get it! I have broken plastic patio chairs, I have to move the table (if it moves) to fit into a restaurant booth, I look for chairs without arms so I can sit comfortably without the arms digging into me, I have travelled on airplanes and knew I was encroaching on the space of the passenger next to me not to mention having to ask for a seatbelt extender in order to be adequately belted in. I have been humiliated when I have attempted to go on an amusement park ride and been asked to step off since the restraint couldn't fit---in front of all of those waiting people! I have felt heartbroken, humiliated and hopeless and still been unsuccessful in my numerous attempts at weight loss

I finally have hope again and you do too. Here is our chance! We can and will do this! But let us also and always remember, once we reach our goal, where we came from and NEVER belittle, humiliate or browbeat those who still struggle remembering we are all at different places in our weight loss journeys!

Last year we were at a family reunion and I sat in a plastic chair and I thought I felt it crack so I got up and walked around for awhile when I came back  my niece who is about 30 40 pounds over weight had sat in the chair and it broke.

I never let on that I thought it had begun to break while I was sitting in it... the chair belonged to me and she was apologizing for breaking it.

I'm so bad, I spent the rest of the day on the picnic bench or on the grass... she did too LOL
