Question re. skin rashes

With the loose hanging skin of my panni, I sometimes get a very yucky rash under there.  What cream(s) are people using to successfully prevent this or is it something that can only be treated with a prescription?  Many of the treatments suggested on other boards are things that can only be purchased in the US.  Thanks in advance.  Yucky topic.

Hey Karen

Personally I like to use corn starch as it dries everything out, but then if you do use prescription creams you can use that in your efforts if you want the panni removed at some point

Take care

I don't necessarily want it removed.  I'm more concerned with infection, since I will have an open cut exactly there when I have my hysterectomy.  I'm thinking cornstarch isn't gonna cut it, but good suggestion.  I'd like to find something effective and preventative to use all the time so I don't have to worry about it being an issue at surgery time.

Cornstarch will clear it up quickly and once it is cleared up, just keep that area dry and use the cornstarch.  Mine didn't come back.

DONT use cornstarch. It's a fungal infection, and cornstarch feeds that. If you're going to use a powder, make sure it doesnt have cornstarch in it.

I actually asked the same question to my doc last week as I'm starting to see more rashes and she said:
Wet rash = dry powders
Dry rash = ointment/lotions

And like someone mentioned, she suggested corn starch.....i also read someone uses Gold Bond to prevent?!? Maybe worth checking out.

Someone on another board suggested Monistat cream (you know, the one for "down there" when you have a yeast infection).

I'll ask my family doc I suppose. Thanks Nathalie.

That will only work if your rash is a yeast infection.  I only had it yeast under my skin once and that is what I had to use.

What I have used in the past, and it does work fairly well, is Penatan cream - the thick glue in the round tin.  But it gets all over everything and it's hard to wash out of clothes.

Karen, my doctor told me to use Monistat cream for my rashes under my panni & breasts & it works like a dream! I put it on before bed & it's cleared up by morning & it's not sticky or gloppy or smelly.  I used to always use cornstarch but my doctor told me to stop using - she said that it doesn't target the actual bacteria causing the rash. With the hot, sweaty weather coming, I know that I'll have a lot of rashes - yuck!  Good luck!
