Question re. skin rashes
If you want to know the best perscription cream for sore and rashes it's called
Fucidin 2% cream. It's a very strong cream but it heals. I have to use it under my plastic and leather neck brace. However, I have used it for rashes on any other skin issue. At the hospital, it's what is perscribed for those also with pressure sores or skin folds. My nurses suggest also using strips of washed jersey cotton to put under the skin folds when the rash turns to sores and opens. They reccomend throwing out the cotton pads you make or boil them.
When the rash is very wide Fucidin and a hydro cortisone cream on top. ( a little goes a long way then apply a thicker coat of hydro cortisone.) Becareful the skin soaps you use not to dry and crack the skin area. Sween body bath soap used in the hospital for new born babies and on the spinal chord floor is wonderful! You can buy it at Shoppers drugs mart 8.99 a bottle. It has to be shoppers home health. If your looking for barrier creams again Shoppers Home health or a pharmacy can order it in. These products are awesome for babies and any skin breakdown or skin rubbing areas.
I get a script from my doctor and you can add it to your medical not covered expenses. These are used in hospital inbetween the times you use your perscriptions for severe skin rash or breakdown
Sween 24 by coloplast:Moister hydrant for normal to dry flaky itchy skin.
Citric-Aid clear by coloplastMoister for minor to severe skin irritation due to incontinence.( I don't have this problem but the doctors recommend this at Parkwood for all skin issues.) Really great from a baby's rash. This makes a thin barrier to protect the skin from moisture. These are about 14.00 but I have gotten them for as low as 8.00. They also have a purse size if your wanting it for a diaper bag or purse. The third cream by Sween is called Sween cream with natural vitiminsA&D for red, sore dry skin. 9.0 it's a good one for any body part great for legs or chapped skin.
Hope this helps:)

My plastic surgeon told me to wash that area well 3 times per day and to use cornstarch and even put a clean tea towel under it to keep the skin from touching. He didn't want me to have any more outbreaks before my TT. He said cornstarch and lots of washing that area works the best when the rash is a yucky wet one.
Good suggestion, thanks. So plain old cornstarch or get the Gold Bond? I'd love to wear a towel but I don't think it'd fit under my dress pants for work. LOL I'm thinking I may have to purchase some gauze or some sort of pad for under there to keep the skin away from the other skin.

Plain cornstarch. You could go without the towel during the day and just use something between the skin when home and in comfy clothes. Oh and don't use the same wash cloth to wash that area more than once. I went through a lot of wash cloths to clear mine up but was worth doing extra laundry.
Yeah, I don't care about the extra laundry, just about dying from a freakin' infection. lol

I was hoping I wouldn't either, Simona. 160 pound weight loss + loose skin + age 44 = overhang. lol

There is a powder that repells water/sweat called "Honey Dust" that you can get from Fantasia salespeople or R-rated stores. I think a big tin is about $40 and it has lasted me YEARS. You put it on when you know it's going to be a hot one out there or are expecting a lot of sweating in a certain area and it prevents chafing and rashes. Works like a charm for me! It's edible and you can actually breathe it in so you don't have the powdery yuck hanging all around after an application.
Once or twice I've gotten such a rash when I wasn't using that preventative measure and, in those instances, corn starch did the trick. I don't know what to suggest for an open sore though...
Good luck!
