I will totally be there......

I just want to add some of my own personal story to this thread. I am 4 years out and have had my struggles. Many of you may remember that a year after my surgery I had a bowel obstruction. I was forced to go back to the States and with my wonderful supportive surgeon who help fight with the hospital made my out of pocket surgery that OHIP refused to pay for even though I was on death door to save me affordable. Being 4 years out I am far from a VET I struggle everyday and make poor decisions on a daily basis and I am paying very much for my choices. I know am having Iron infusions every two weeks, B12 injections ever month, looking at Vit D injections and desperately fighting with my committment to my vitiamins. Eating, regain, losing, mind games, self sabatoge are real issues that we as pre-op, post op and VETS face. If you are going on this journey then you need to do it with the support of a community, you need the advice of those that know what they are doing and talking about. This is not easy no one ever said it was. Tough Love is not easy but we all need it. Being held accountable by those that have fought as hard as you to get this amazing present is so important. Without all of this we will fail. You will have your praises when you need them, you will be hugged when you need that, your tears will be wiped through virtual means, but trust me your ass will be kicked too. That is what being part of a supportive family like community is all about.

Kerry, your experience, success and solid advice DO make you a vet.  To be honest, there are TONS of newer-outs who totally get it and are a fabulous resource to others, despite how far out they are.  There are TONS of "vets" who are trainwrecks and shouldn't be giving advice to anyone.  I call them all out equally. LOL

Kerry what a great post. I call all of you vets Tge golden group! You all have so much to offer and share. I'm thankful for the information and questions someone may pose to me as oh I never thought of it that way! I think it's great as I'm a newbie and truly hang on to your all the vets words and newbies and save them in a file for me to refer back to even if the question is one I have not posted but read and thought....I might need that answer. That is a great thought for after the surgery. Or maybe I could try this because of everyone's kindness to share their personal journey.

Yep, you're right.

I find it so sad, though, when people are so self-hating and self-defensive that they can't, or won't, hear truth that could help them.

Anyway.  I'm done rambling.  It's my own fault for caring too much sometimes about people who don't care about themselves.  Obviously I need to learn a lesson.
