Question re: Sleeve & timed-release drugs
VSG on 05/11/12
Thanks everyone - I appreciate your timely responses. I am seeing the doctor at the bariatric centre tomorrow for my first post-op follow-up so I will run it by him to see if he knows & I am seeing my family doc on Thursday as well. I see the dietician on Fri, but I'm sure that she won't know the answer.
I tend to think that it's okay to take timed-release meds. So many "rules" seem to be based on the RNY procedure that I'm finding that I have to really dig around to find answers when it comes to the VSG, but I'm persistent & I'll keep doing my research. It's always nice to hear from others on this journey, like you terrific ladies - thanks a bunch!

We can take whatever drug we wish. We don't have any restrictions when it comes to nsaids or meds of any type as our stomachs function completely normal, just in a smaller capacity. I currently take Excedrin every 4 hours for a tooth ache along with many other pills. I was using T2's but the codeine really made the acid increase, so I switched myself. No problems at all now. Doc said, it has the same medicinal ingredients as the T2 but just without the codeine. As long as your meds don't interact negatively with each other, you have no restrictions.
Have you visited the VSG board yet? They are absolutely wonderful on there, and have so much information to offer for any question you have.
