Has anyone ever gone to a Hot Yoga class?  Some girlfriends talked me into giving one class a try this Sunday and I'm wondering if anyone has gone and what they thought of it?

I am giong to start Hot Yoga classes in September or October. Found a place for a great one month trial fee. I have only heard great things about it.
All the best
Post how things got at yoga.

I've heard mixed reviews, but I'm always willing to try something at least once.

Hi Pink

I would be careful of this....I know two people who became quite ill after taking Hot Yoga for a few weeks....just too intense for them

Note - they were normal weight people - eating normal amounts of food - just be careful ok?

Edited to add - both of these people referred to above were fit and were regular Yoga devotee's

It is certainly intense!! But you have to go into it not being a hero. That was a problem I had. I wanted to do everything perfectly, and it's just not possible!! LOL

I have found it safe, as long as i'm listening to my body.

Before surgery I used to do Bikram Yoga which is 40C, 40% humidity, for 90 mins. The instructors will tell you repeatedly to rest on the mat (they ask that you stay in the room unless you absolutely have to leave). Also keep in mind that very few do the poses perfect. Just do it the best YOU can. Bring lots of water. I truly found the heat to be mind over matter. I had a personal challenge having never done yoga, to do 100 classes in 100 days which I successfully completed. Once this stupid incision heals I'm looking forward to returning. One of the things I found as a surprise is when people say they don't really notice others in the room, it's true. You concentrate so much on yourself and because of the sweating you do, less clothing is best. I found I became less critical of my own body after looking at it daily in the mirror for 90 mins a day.

Lots before, lots after....very little during. You end up feeling sick if you drink too much during hot yoga.

I do Bikram Yoga. And as noted before it's great because nobody is perfect. I have been cold since surgery, and it was so nice to get into that hot room!! You can't imagine the amount of sweating you will do. I took off the past few months, because I was busy and couldn't imagine doing it, and then stepping outside into even hotter weather. lol

Here's a few tips.

Bring two towels. And a yoga mat. I have a yoga towel to go on my mat, because it stays put.
Drink water before class, and only sip during.
They say not to eat two hours before class. I have to skip this rule, because i'm hypoglycemic. I have to measure my sugars before I do the class and eat to be "allowed" to do the class. I've had to miss it twice
Stay in the back row, and watch the people in front of you
Lay down whenever you need to. After my two months off, I had to lie down a lot my first time back. There is one pose that makes me feel like i'm going to pass out, the back bend. It's normal to feel like that...just so you know!!

Personally, I would try cold yoga first.

It sounds as though the "hot" yoga could induce an electrolyte imbalance, and post WLS people have fluid issues to begin with.
