Morning all :) Morning Ian.

Lazy day planned for the most part, though I'm making crab and shrimp stuffed portobello mushrooms for dinner - YUMMY! Scottish Boy is still asleep but Jesse came home a while ago (read: elephants running up and down the stairs, that boy does NOT know how to be quiet) so I got up to have coffee with him - and he's put "Ring of Fire" on the DVD - yay!

RNY 6.5 years post-op (low fibre medically ordered diet)

B - coffee with milk x 2, protein shake
S - 1 white toast with peanut butter and sliced banana
L - pasta salad made with tuna, onions, mayo, peppers
S - likely just tea with milk. maybe a Fog.
D - portobello mushrooms stuffed with crab and shrimp - recipe on the ON recipe forum

Have a super Sunday!

ETA: Uhhh... that would be Walk the Line. Duh!

Good morning!!

I am not sure what we are doing today. Hubby is working and I am not sure if I can handle being at home with the kids (4) for yet another rainy day. Thinking of a trip to Ikea!!

Breakfast - coffee, smoothie with greek yogurt and either mangos or may try a banana/pb

Snack - banana (I was told I am not getting enought potassium)

Lunch - ? Maybe sardines and rice crackers when we get home

Dinner - Going to my parents, so not sure what mom is making

Barb I do have to ask - how did you get so much protein into todays' menu? I struggle everyday with protein as so many high protein things gag me (deli meats, egg yolks, cottage cheese, greek yogurt not in a smoothie). I need help with this please!!

Hi Michelle

The first thing I do each day is plan my meals AROUND protein first....the rest is secondary

When you are early out....you need your dense protein to be moist....I used to make the little gravy packets ( McCormick's I think) and roast some chicken and add the gravy to the chicken

Do the high protein foods "gag" you because of taste or because you feel they get stuck?  If its taste....then you need to keep trying different foods to find what you tolerate

If you gag because of food getting stuck....then that's easier to solve.....cut up in tiny pieces....chew like crazy....put moisture in or on your protein choice....gravy....mayo.....tomatoes....sauce of any kind

I found just about everything went down well for me when paired with tomatoes....fresh/canned/sauce

If egg yolks are a problem then just eat the whites....they are packed with protein...and mash with some mayo

Chicken can be difficult....try putting in a slow cooker with chicken broth....maybe a packet of taco seasoning....and cook for 6 - 8 hours....it will shred and be very moist....I ate this often the first 6 months

How about shrimp ****tail?  They slide easily and are a good source of protein....I still eat them and will often buy a frozen ****tail ring and bring in to the office for my lunch....and eat the whole thing throughout the work day

If you don't already have one.....purchase a crock pot.....this is a definition of moisture based food!!...Crock pot food is never dry....buy a cookbook specializing in this style of cooking

Soups....I make my own and freeze in small containers....veggie beef is a favorite....and the beef is very tender from simmering in the broth and veggies....and filling

fish......slides easily....great if you like the taste of fish...( I love it).....you can eat this often....I find it doesn't need any further moisture added....but if you need it add a little tzatziki sauce to it

Salad with protein added.....I find the salad and dressing makes everything go down easily and tasty

Keep trying.....you will eventually find things that work....and when you are further out from surgery your pouch will mature and be more accepting of many foods.....I can eat anything....I know some who still cant stomach certain foods many years out...trial and error

Good luck

Can I add to this? ... I am gonna anyway..I now have 3 crock pots since surgery

i have a small oval one that I use for things that are well... Smallish.. I use it for steel cut oats.. In put them in the night before and I have a great breakfast for the up coming week... I also use the small one for small roasts (beef and pork) I will make my own sloppy joes and pulled meat sasandwiches I have a large oval one for the chicken so I can place it breast side down and then the breast is not dry at all I was finding that even if I did the chicken in the crock pot the breast would still be dry sometimes so I started putting breast down so it sits in juices ... I have my round crock pot for soups and stews and chili.

in order to save time in the mornings when I plan on a crock pot meal I will mix everything the night before and place it in a Tupperware container in the fridge so the morning of all I need to do is dump it in and turn it on.. But don't forget to plug it in...lol yep I've done that

if I know the up comingnweekmis going to be busy I will  mix everything in advance and put it in Tupperware and freest it ... Then put it on the counter to semi defrost over night and plop it in the crock pot the morning of
