6 weeks since surgery & weight has stayed the same for a week! Help!!!
My weight hasn't changed except for going up or down 2 ounces in about a week. I've lost 46 pounds now but I'm very frustrated now. Could it be because I'm not eating or drinking enough? It sucks because most days I'm not hungry & I'm only getting in yogurt, a protein bar, some water & dinner when I get home which is usually a little pasta with tomato sauce. I'm also having trouble getting in my calcium! What do you do when you're struggling to get food in as it is??? I wasn't expecting it to stop after this short period! Thanks for "listening".
2 ounces up or down? Oh my!
Seriously, put the scale away. Weigh yourself once a week at most. You can get yourself freaked out if you focus on the scale too much.
Instead, work on getting your protein in, 8 glasses of water and walk every day. Most important is understand that this takes time. You didn't put on all the weight in a few weeks and so it is that it will take time for your body to shed that weight.
I expect with the loss of 46 pounds, you feel pretty good. You should, that's a considerable amount of weight to lose in 6 weeks. From what I have read here and elsewhere, it's about two years before you get to where you're going to end up. That's is 104 weeks. So you can see you're just starting and already, you've made such good progress.
The weight will come off. The tough part is to change you life style. Like me, what you were doing before was bad for you. You have to get that sorted out and believe it or not, that's the elephant in the room.
Like the rest of us here on the bench, you have put your body through a very stressful operation. It takes time to heal from that and get accustomed to the new way things work. We all have stalls and great leaps in progress. Have faith. You will see the changes as time goes by. Having the right attitude helps too. Asking questions here is a good idea. While I tend to ramble on,
there are some pretty smart cookies here that have the answers or know where you can get them. So let's consider the facts.
You are in a stall right now, which is normal and in the experience of most here.
You have lost a considerable amount of weight already and you're just at the start of your journey.
You are smart enough to ask questions here when you aren't feeling sure of yourself. Which is exactly what you should do.
All the best on your journey.

Stalls come at different times in your weight loss journey. My first one came at 5 months out. Then I have had a couple since then. I find that when the scale doesn`t move, I start to receive more compliments from people. Although I am not losing weight like I was, my body is adjusting and I am losing inches.
Good luck.

Good luck.

I have read a few different things on how to kick a stall.
One of them was to make sure you are getting all your calcium. I take the chews and eat one for "dessert" after lunch and dinner. During my stall I was slack on taking them.
Yup, it sure could be that you aren't eating and drinking enough. That doesn't sound like enough to me and the pasta .. I'm not allowed pasta at this stage (5 weeks out) .. maybe try having a fillet of fish ( I eat the blue menu salmon and mahi mahi from the Superstore) leftover turkey with low fat gravy ? I am not hungry either but was in a stall for a while and I had to up my water and protein intake in order to break it. I drink a protein shake every morning with 2 scoops of powder in it for a kick off of 40 g`s of protein. Greek yogurt is excellent for protein if you don`t eat meat.
I know you weren`t looking for food advice but I had to find things that I liked to eat. Interesting things. So that I would eat. :)
Good luck ! and CONGRATS on your weight loss thus far :) You are doing amazing !

A little break like this is normal. I had a stall for about 3 weeks from around 5 or 6 weeks out until about 8 or 9 weeks out.
Now a note about food - there is no protein in pasta and tomato sauce. Ditch the pasta and instead mix some ground turkey or chicken with some sauce and spices, you can make it italian style or like shepperd's pie - very tasty and very easy to eat early out (for me anyway). You want to stay away from bread, rice, pasta, et****il you are at least close to goal so you can keep your carbs low and your body in ketosis. Also, a protein shake would have fewer carbs than a protein bar. I'm not seeing eggs, cheese, meat, fish - all these wonderful, delicious protein rich food sources in your diet! Cheese especially should be very easy to eat early out. Start experimenting a bit with other protein sources and this might stimulate your appetite a bit and help you to get the protein you need everyday - at least 80g!

I had OHIP approved Duodenal Switch surgery with Dr. Dennis Hong at St. Joseph's Hamilton on March 7th, 2012. Want more information on the DS in Ontario? Send me a private message!

Throw them out.
You have lost 46 lbs! and that is awesome!
We all reach these plateaus called "stalls" where you stop losing weight for a while. It's your body adjusting.
Relax.. be proud
And throw OUT the scales!
