There are at least 3, if not more, RD's at HRRH, so no way to know which one you're seeing. The one I saw was a little snarky. So, I was just a little snarky back and she backed off lol.

Same with the social worker and nurse......there are a couple of them, so no way to know which one you'll get. Basically, all of them want to know if you have a good understanding of your own weight issues, if you have a good understanding of the massive changes in diet that having RNY (or other WLS) requires, if you have a good understanding of how the surgery is done, and what risks are involved. They want to know that you've actually taken ownership of the process and have done some reasearch on your own and that you actually read your orientation package, etc. That's mostly the dietician and social worker. The nurse is more concerned about any meds you're already on, any other medical problems you might have, etc.

Dr. Glazer, the internist, is the head of the bariatric program at HRRH and his job is make sure you're medically safe for surgery. HE's ultimately responsible for your medical care. He's a super nice guy.

Good luck and try to stay relaxed and open about who you are, what you want, and listen to what they all have to say.

Cheers,

Andrea

Leanne, what she said is right on...

I found all the staff at HRRH pretty good...but at all times I was clear headed and determined about going ahead with this surgery.

You'll be fine..:)

I too found the staff really good.  I think they have a big responsibility to make sure that you are very aware of all aspects of this surgery and after.  I had no issues but I went in having done my homework on what it was all about.  Be sure to ask them any questions you have.  They are the ones who have the answers and that can put your mind at ease.  Good luck today.

I had all my appointments there on Monday.  They were all nice. You have to show that you know what the surgery entails and show that you have already began to incorporate changes to your diet. As long as you are ready and know your stuff you will do fine. They all said i was good to go for surgery, i dont have to go back and see them til after my surgery they said...Good luck Krista

A couple of people have posted that they found the staff at the HRRH Bariatric Clinic a little rude and brusque.

I can't say I've had the same experience - I just found they were very busy and therefore a little dry.

The nutritionist, social workers and nurses were all noncommittal and not pushy. They just wanted to weed out those people who are blithely wandering in convinced this surgery is a magic bullet. They're businesslike and efficient.

i've met with various dietitians, and each one of them was nice with me, even the one that's supposed to be snarky. How about going in, expecting to be treated nicely, and act accordingly.

I had 3 different NUT's already at HRRH and they were all wonderful! So try to put your nervous aside.

The nurse is fantastic - the SW I had was really great as well. (they just really need to understand from you that you understand the process - risks - benefits etc...) and when you are an emotional eater ( as many of us are to a certain extend) what steps you are going to put in place to set you up for success.

And Dr. Glazer will review your chart - and probably do an ECG. Sometimes he will ask for additional tests - sometimes not.

Go with a positive attitude and write your questions down for them. This is also "your" time to ask them questions.

and lol - I did review my notes from the class in case they would ask me a question. hihi. I think they like people who are prepared ( as they should be )

Best of luck

Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
