Hair Loss
Hello All, I am 5 months post op. I am losing a lot of hair especially after I shower. I have thick long hair and have a lot of hair so its not noticeable yet.
I take my vitamins everyday.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to minimize the hair loss?
I also want to colour my hair to get rid of the grey hair that is coming through. Any ideas on how to minimize further damage?
Thanks
I've read some people recommend taking Biotin, but it's not guaranteed to work. You could also try using prenatal multivitamins, although that just makes the hair you have grow faster.
Generally the best advice from the reading I've done is to get all your protein and vitamins in, cut layers to minimize the loss and just wait for it to stop
Ugh. I've got the same issue. Hate it.
At my six month f/u, I was told that all my levels were fine (including zinc and iron that can apparently be culprits) and, that I was doing great on the protein front.
I went through this once before, after the birth of my son when I also had a rapid weight loss (although, I only lost the 50 pounds I gained with him, vs. what I have now), but didn't after my daughter, for whom I only gained 24 pounds when pregnant.
It's rotten and, I know it's making you unhappy. Me, too. There's lots of us out there though and, I've been promised by my team that it'll all grow back.
Hang in there.....we'll have full heads of hair again, soon!
Hello I am 71/2 months out everyone will tell you to do this take that but nothing will help with you losing your hair it will help with regrowth I also got all my protein in and that didn't help if it is going to happen it will. Mine started around 3 months and is slowing down now.
I have long hair and my hairdresser gave me couple tips she advised me not to cut my hair short just to layer my hair that way when it breaks off or falls out it is not that noticeable, not wash my hair everyday like I use to leave it for about 3 - 4 days before washing and not to bru**** all the time. Colouring will not damage your hair I have had mine done 3 -4 times since surgery.
I have done all of the above still had lots of hair loss but my hair is still long and it is not that noticeable thanks to having thick hair before surgery.
I also use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner for thinning hair you can buy in hair salon or winners sells it $24.95 for large bottle it is cheaper then at salon. I also tried taking biotin didn't do anything so I switched to using SilicaLiquid you buy in health store and since I started taking it really notice the difference and I just heard from some other ladies they taking hair/nails vitamin you buy at Walmart.
It does get better.

Ditto on everything y'all said. It sucks. Someone told me that biotin promotes hair growth EVERYWHERE, so I am staying away.
I wash my hair less frequently and try to be gentle with brushing - I have long, used to be thick hair too. Going to get layers and colour on Monday. Hoping it will help. This too shall pass...sigh
Does this happen to everyone?
