Question for single people w no family

I live alone too, and am very independent.  I have a mother living in the same city, but honestly, she is too ill to be of much help.

I plan on prepping everything I can before hand.  My two cats are going on a 'vacation' for the first week to a kennel.  I've used the kennel before and they get to play a lot and meet other cats, and they loved it.  That way I don't have to worry about bending too much for cat litter scooping, or about them using my tummy as a trampoline/springboard (which they HAVE done in the past...floor to tummy to window).

I'm doing what Dara suggested when it comes to my aquarium.  I have a huge one with african cichlids and I know that for the first 6 weeks, I won't be able to lift the buckets of water when changing the aquarium water.  I plan on having a different friend come by each week.

Other than that I'm pretty set.  I plan on going back to work as soon as I can, since it's mostly desk work.  Also, like you, work is my main source of socialization.  After two weeks at home alone, I'd be bouncing off the walls and talking to myself. *lol*
