Topic: RE: Any Ontario VSG'ers?

Hi Red,

I had VSG in Toronto in November 2018 but had lost quite a bit of weight pre-surgery just from changing my eating habits. I am still losing and am very happy with the surgery up to this point....I have had no complications and can eat any foods without issues so if you follow the program I'm sure this would be a great option for you.

Best of luck!

Hope that things get easier soon. I remember early days it was a lot harder to get food in. I found that at month 4, things got a lot easier quickly. All the best.

For sure. Here's what I roughly eat every day. I aim for about 100-115 grams per day. Often I will not be able to eat all meals, which is why I land at about 90 grams daily. For example, I do not always drink 2 shakes a day, but if I have a big workout/am more hungry, I always keep a second handy just in case. Hope this helps.

Bkfst - Weekday Skyr yogurt + berries w/ coffee ~8-10 grams

Weekend eggs + 1 chicken/turkey bacon w/coffee ~8-10 grams

Snack - protein shake ~30 grams

Lunch - salad or some veg stirfry w/ chicken ~12-15 grams

Snack - if I'm still hungry, protein shake ~30 grams

Dinner - seafood (shrimp/fish) or chicken w/ vegetables ~12-15 grams

Dessert - every few days I have halo top/greek yogurt popsicle from Costco ~5 grams

So it took several months for this to start? I've been told and read that it is inevitable - a side effect of the surgeries. Dreading it. I've got pretty thick hair but it is also quite long . I know part of the issue is not enough protein - which is a problem for me as I struggle to get in even the minimum. I started taking Bioten about a month ago (you have to let your doctor know as Bioten can impact blood results). Although I hadn't at that point started to lose. Noticed yesterday after washing it and brushing it out that is DEFINITELY thicker - but not sure what will happen once it starts to fall out!

Hello there. I had VSG in October 2009!!! I lost 100lbs and found out I was pregnant 5 months out. So weight loss halted. I would have been happy with 30 more lbs lost. But the two pregnancies were possible due to the 100lbs lost so I'll take that. IF...you follow the rules you will do great. I got ****y and started to eat things I shouldn't and never really exercised. I've regained 30 lbs. currently at the gym and back to basics and lost 5lbs. so far. 25 to go to pre baby weight. Any questions fire away

Congratulations! Do we ALL feel as if we lose slower? I guess we all focus on that apparent minority of people who lose TONS ... when if we all feel that way, maybe that's the common way? I feel the same way - struggling mightily to get protein in, hell, to get food in - mine was June 11 - and at this point not sure what weight I am! Been dealing with a sick mum - so the last two plus weeks been a blur.

I would love to know how you get 90 g of protein in daily? I really struggle to get it in - could you share how you accomplish that?

Topic: Any up to date remedies to help with hair loss?

Past couple of months I've noticed my thick hair becoming thin. Whenever I run my hands through my hair there are always some in my hand and washing it results in a large amount going down the drain. I'm just getting to 10 months post op and hoping it will stop thinning and some new roots will start to grow. Even my hairstylist noticed, so we decided to go with a short bob to help lift and give a fuller look.

I've tried to search about it and see mention Biotin supplements and Castrol oil. I am doing my vitamins and my last blood work looked good. Ideas?

Thanks, Sunny

Topic: Any Ontario VSG'ers?

Hi all,

I'm just at the beginning of the process now. I have already been told that I may need the VSG (due to needing to take anti inflammatories for another condition) instead of the roux en y. I'm just wondering if there are others who have done VSG and what your experience was? It seem like the weight loss is somewhat less but still achievable if you follow the eating plan.
