I have found so many "new" things that I have eaten since that I never would have thought about before surgery.. ricotta (YUM), greek yogurt (still not my fave, but I can eat it), all the great new recipes everyone shares.

I MISS CHINESE FOOD!! I used to love going to the buffets and eating anything/everything there.  I have eaten pepper steak and chicken with broccoli from the buffet at Wegman's, but it's not the same as from the "real" restaurants and it's not what I want.  I love calamari and sushi and won't attempt.  I have had sashimi so that's good.  I have not attempted any refined carbs at all and don't want to tempt fate.

Beth, you may have to let me know where that ice cream place is on Saturday.. soft serve is yummy!

I do chicken and broccoli often from Chinese places when we do have it.

I also get their steamed pork dumplings (I dont' know if you do pork?) and eat basically just the filling.  I do, however, miss fried rice.  Pouchy HATES HATES HATES rice so I don't tempt the fate

Favorite post op:  Shrimp ---- I love it and it used to just be a treat because of the expense.  Now I don't worry about cost (although I can find a deal like none other).  I make 2 lbs a week and divide into 5-6 servings and eat 5-6 times a week.  A little worried about the whole mercury thing but . . .

Miss post op:  Rye or pumpernickle bread with thick slab of real butter.  I was not really a bready except for these.  If I bought a loaf at a bakery it would be gone in 2 days.   I don't dare bring into the house now, but at 11 months out I have had a half slice now and then at breakfast out or at parties with spinach dip.

104 lbs lost now Maintenance BABY!!!!

To be honest with you the only thing that I truly miss from before is doughnuts. I really loved them and abused them, they are the only food i look at with longing now. I do not have it though.

There are so many things I like now that I was not a fan of before.

nuts
dried fruit
greek yogurt
salad
feta cheese
oatmeal absolutely hated it before

Chocolate layer cake with chocolate icing. Since childhood it has always been my favorite treat - one I didn't indulge in often but when one was around, oh baby!! And guess what? One is going to be in the office today and I will drool a little when I see others eating it, but the wonderful woman who baked it also brought in a box of sugar free fudgesicles so I can have one of those while everyone else is indulging in cake - isn't she great?!

Sometimes when I smell a really great hoagie I get the urge, but I know bread is NOT my friend so just the thought of it swelling in my pouch turns me off. And I always loved McDonalds french fries - OMG not anymore - they taste so greasy and nasty now - tried them once - had 3 and that was it.

I've found so many great substitutes for bread and sweets that I really don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

My only craving now is my daily McDonalds Large Sugar Free Vanilla Iced Coffee. I HAVE to have it. I'll admit it - My name is Kathy and I am addicted to it - one a day will do it, but this week I will fess up to stopping on my way to the hospital and getting a small one. It just gives me a little added boost to get me thru the evening...

You always come up with the best topics...  and seem to know what i've been thinking about lately, too!

I used to love McCann's Irish Oatmeal.  Had some last week and couldn't stand it.  Not sure why, but there ya go.

I've found so many new things that I'm loving since surgery, though... like greek yogurt and PB2.

And since surgery, I can now tolerate several foods that previously gave me problems.  For example, milk (i always heard it went the other way, but not for me - couldn't tolerate it before, now it's fine).  And tomatoes always gave me horrible heartburn, but now they're ok.  Haven't tried peppers yet (the other offender in the heartburn wars), though.

The absolute hardest thing for me to be around and not eat is fresh, hot rolls.  Particularly when you go to a restaurant and they bring the hot bread basket with olive oil for dipping - that just about kills me.  BUT... i also know that it's a major trigger for me, so just place the toxic thing as far away from me as possible on the table and as out of sight as I can, then ignore (ha) everyone else eating them.

I also had a hard time when my niece took everyone out for ice cream on vacation.  The old-fashioned parlor had 4 flavors of SF - but all of them used aspartame, which i'm allergic to.  So i had my water (with lemon) and did my best to not feel deprived.  But OH did i want to dive across the table and take a big ole bit of my daughter's strawberry cone.  It helped that they said it was "just ok" ice cream and nothing special  ;-).

The only food I miss is Gnocchi's, I am Italian and we would go t omy cousins Restaurant
which I may say is the best Italian Restaurant in Northeast Phila and when I would go in they would just bring me the usual 2 meatballs & Gnocchis. I can eat the meatball but Gnocchi's are l;ittle dumplings that are made of flour & potatoes and before WLS they would lump in your stomach and keep you full for hours, well I am afraid to try even 1 cause it could blow up & fill my whole pouch even if you chew it very well it is only a lump of dough.
As far as sugar I have not tried to see if I can tolerate and I will not try it. I can make mostly anything SF. I guess I miss snicker's but I have eaten enough of them in my past  life to last me till my next life
