Hi Everyone,
My husband, Richard is recovery from Pancreas cancer.. He has been doing really well. About 2 months ago we noticed he had a small growth on his back.. I told him to call his PCP. He said not it's just a pimple. This past week he is complaining about pain in the area where the growth is. It is much larger!  He says feels like it is stuck to his bone or something back there. It hurts him when he moves. Like pulling..He never complains. So I knew I had to call his PCP right away. He is very stubborn! But I told him Tough luck! You are going to your PCP!
I call his PCP and explain to them whats going on and she gets him in right away...She told him she wants him to go to Dr Ameri, Who is my Bariatric surgeon! To have it removed. I was very surprised!  I asked him do you mean biopsied? Not just removed...My husband only hears what he wants to hear!!! MEN!!! He says no, just removed. I'm thinking that is strange. After an hour he says oh maybe she does want it biopsied.
I have my pre surgery appointment with Dr. Ameri tomorrow late afternoon. And he wants to meet my husband. Dr. Ameri requires all his patients to bring their spouse if married or SO to meet him prior to having surgery. So Richard has to go with me. What perfect timing! I'm going to call my surgeons office in the morning just to see if he can look at it. I know we will have to pay a co pay...I don't care.. I'm really nervous!!! So please lift us up in Prayer. Alizka

To answer the question in your post; yes, bariatric surgeons are often specialized in Plastic surgery as well. This is nice because they can ofter do the plastics so many of us eventually need. The growth on your husband's back will most likely be removed entirely and tested for malignancy. It's safer that way and usually how they do it if it's an easy procedure like a mole, wart, or cyst removal. Still I wish him the very best and a boring diagnosis.
"Thank God for your trials as much as for your blessings; without the salt of tears you cannot truly appreciate the sweetness of joy."

Ummm, I don't believe that bariatric surgeons are often plastic surgeons, at least not where I live. I do believe bariatric surgeons are often general surgeons who specialize in bariatrics (pardon my simple analogy, but guts is guts).

Plastic surgeons deal in skin and muscles. BIG difference from guts.
