Sorry you are so stressed but impressed that you are able to see clearly that eating won't help and that tea is calming to you. I still work at this daily.

Thank you. I am clear that poor eating would only make things worse, but I do need to develop some different coping mechanisms for dealing with anxiety, fear and worry. It takes a lot to get me in that state as I'm thankfully normally a fairly cheerful sort, but even I have my limits.

As far as the tea goes - I have gotten used to using some artificial sweeteners in it, which makes it very palatable to me, or I use one of those delicious syrups, which are also artificially sweetened. My throat has been sore and uncomfortable for a few weeks now. I was at the doc's office today and I had thought this was related to my thyroid - but nope! My sub-mandibular salivary glands are swollen and enlarged. What causes that, I asked? Artificial sweetweners, amongst other things. As soon as the doc mentioned it, I knew that was the culprit! I knew using that stuff wasn't the healthiest practice for more than one good reason, but liked the sweetened tea so much I just kept on using it. Darn and double darn! Now I'll have to get used to unsweetened tea. Or maybe use some stevia, but that adds carbs. Maybe I'll be able to use some syrups some of the time - just not all of the time, after I get the swelling down and am back to normal! Oh well!

Aw! That stinks. I use those Sf syrups in my coffee all the time. I use Splenda in my tea I doubt I'd be able to give those up.

I know! I don't want to either! But I'm tired of my sore throat. For sure I've been over-consuming. Drats!

ahh, sorry that you are not doing great and that they yummy syrups are part of the challenge! I think this goes into our "moderation" issues (at least speaking for myself), I try to only do one coffee/tea a day with the sweetness, and only two with half and half because I hear "don't drink your calories" in my head so much! One thing I realized is that I was making bigger cups of tea incorrectly....for example, if I had a 30 oz mug, I was leaving my teabag in longer but then it would get bitter; now if I have a mug that big, I put two tea bags in but for the normal time. Tastes much better. I hope you find what works for you now.

Thanks. I'll work it out one way or another! I use two teabags too, but keep it pretty weak overall. My main objective is hydration, not caffeination. I can sleep immediately after drinking tea, but give me coffee and I'll be greeting the dawn!

I figured that virtually no calories/no carbs in my endless cups of tea was a good thing. I agree we need to be careful not to drink our calories, and personally I have half and half only rarely, not every day. Although it's luxurious and delicious, it's too spendy, calorically. I used to put cashew milk in every mug, but that too I often don't use now, though it has only 25 calories per 8-ounce cup. But I can see I will have to draw down on the artificial sweetener as well, regardless of it's no cals/no carbs siren song! Actually my surgeon feels strongly that it's important to avoid them. It's probably his only diet rule that I've broken.
