Thursday's QOTD
Morning y'all (yaaaaaaaawn). So the Easter Bunny is making eggs for us - and thank goodness he's delivering yummy protein filled eggs to us and not chocolate bunnies, right?
So here's the QOTD:
1) Do you color easter eggs?
2) How do you celebrate Easter or Spring?
3) Do you have a favorite Easter Sunday recipe that you can share with us here?
4) Give a piece of advice to all the pre-ops and new post-ops here. It doesn't matter if you're a pre or post op - we all know something that might mean a lot to someone out there!!!!!
Now, go and take your vitamins like good girls and boys - or NO EGGS FOR YOU!
Happy Thursday!
Cheryl
1) Do you color easter eggs?
I sure do! Even though I don't have any kids, I color eggs every year even if it's just 6 of them. I just love to do it!
2) How do you celebrate Easter or Spring?
This year, I think I'm going to go to the Sunrise Service down in Kemah on Easter morning. OR I'll be at my mom and dad's. I haven't quite decided yet!
3) Do you have a favorite Easter Sunday recipe that you can share with us here?
My mom always makes ham on Easter and of course deviled eggs. Y'all probably don't need a recipe for that!
4) Give a piece of advice to all the pre-ops and new post-ops here. It doesn't matter if you're a pre or post op - we all know something that might mean a lot to someone out there!!!!!
Don't worry that you've made the biggest mistake of your life immediately following surgery. Not many people are happy coming out of surgery - any surgery. There will be pain - yes, it's going to suck for the first couple of weeks - but I promise it gets better and you'll be happy once the pounds start flying off.
1) Do you color easter eggs?
Yes, well actually my kids do.
2) How do you celebrate Easter or Spring?
My extended family gets together to eat (my side) and we go to my husband's jewish mama's house and have passover dinner with his extended family
3) Do you have a favorite Easter Sunday recipe that you can share with us here?
No, I am the person who brings pickles and olives because I have the ability to burn water.
4) Give a piece of advice to all the pre-ops and new post-ops here. It doesn't matter if you're a pre or post op - we all know something that might mean a lot to someone out there!!!!!
This piece of advice has nothing to do with WLS, but it is the most important thing to me. Always treat your kids with respect, even while reprimanding them. Never say they are bad, only what they did was not right. It makes all the difference in the world in how they feel as adults.

1. Do you color Easter eggs?
Of course!!! Easter just wouldn't be Easter without pretty colored eggs. My kids are grown, but still think that they have to have them. And, just for fun, I still hide them. We're still kids at heart.
2. Do you celebrate Easter or Spring?
I celebrate Easter by attending church services with my family and then we all have dinner together. This year I'll be going to my son's and daughter-in-law's in Angleton to help them move into a new home, but we will still attend church on Sunday morning. I'm sure I'll take them out to eat because we're going to be too tired to cook.
I don't know that I actually celebrate Spring, but I do look forward to it and look forward to be able to bring out the capris and colorful clothes. And, Spring is a great excuse to go shopping!!! Pack all those pants and sweaters away and hit the mall.
3. Usual Easter dinner includes ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, fruit salad, hot fresh bread and coconut cream pie.
Fruit Salad: 1 large can crushed pineapple (drained)
2 cans mandarine oranges (drained)
1 jar cherries (drained)
2 pints sour cream (I use fat free or low fat)
2 cups coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
Mix all together and enjoy! Yummy!!!
4. Advice to pre-op/post-op.
For pre-op: Making the decision for WLS has to be your decision. Don't let anyone tell you different. I had several family members, including my husband try to talk me out of it because they were afraid of loosing me, but as I told them..."I'm not doing this for you, I'm doing it for myself and if I don't do something now, then you're going to loose me anyway. If it's my time to go, then so be it." Now, they are just as happy as I am that I stood firm in my decision. I have a whole new outlook on life and am a much happier person and I'm sure a whole lot easier to live with.
For post-op: No matter how long you've been post-op, it's a constant battle and at the end of the evening, it's a battle well worth it. My old habits of "pigging out" try to creep up on me. Sometimes I am weak and give in and then I want to give myself a big lashing. My favorite saying helps me get through it....."Put on your big girl panties and deal with it." The one thing I don't every want to do is have to actually wear those big girl panties again.
Have a safe and Happy Easter!

Well my surgery was the day after Easter last year so this is very cool to me answering all the Easter questions. I really didn't get to enjoy Easter dinner because I had to eat light and lean.
My advice would be to start as I call "practicing" all the types of things you will need to learn to eat post op. ie: protein bars, sugar free jello and pudding, protein drinks, creamed soups, sugar free popsicles, etc. This really helped me know what I liked prior to surgery. I also lost 8 lbs doing that prior to my surgery date. That was just an added bonus.

1) Do you color easter eggs?
Most Definitly!!!!!! especially now with my active two year old....
2) How do you celebrate Easter or Spring?
Well we usually have a family dinner and huge egg hunt....However, this being the great NORTH of Texas... they are calling for snow on Easter this year..... so might have to adjust our egg hunt plans....
3) Do you have a favorite Easter Sunday recipe that you can share with us here?
Nope... My mom usually does all the cooking.

Persistence pays off... whether it be with an insurance company, your family, Doctors office etc.....do what you have to do to acheive your goal. Daily diligent prayers and faithful reasearch will pay off!

1) Do you color easter eggs?
Not anymore...but a guest for Easter dinner will bring colored eggs.
2) How do you celebrate Easter or Spring?
I "celebrate" Spring by working in the yard every weekend once the weather turns nice. I work for a church so Easter is a work day for me but when I attend the worship service, I am fully present to the meaning of the day. Later I celebrate by calling my own family in Florida an "loving" on them...and I cook Easter dinner for several of my close friends and we enjoy the kids in our midst. Who could ask for anything more.
3) Do you have a favorite Easter Sunday recipe that you can share with us here?
I always cook ham and have either scalloped potatoes or yams, deviled eggs, a salad, bread and rolls. This year I'm making bundles of asparagus wrapped in proscuito ham and baked with a bread crumb topping. I just wanted to do something new. I will be eating creamed soup or something similar as I will just be a bit over 3 weeks post-op.
4) Give a piece of advice to all the pre-ops and new post-ops here.
Start walking 30 minutes a day before the surgery and continue it after surgery. Walk, walk, walk.

hey, better late than never right ??? I have been lagging today but thought I would check the board before bed....
1) yes, I have a 3, almost 4 year old daughter.....so we do the fun stuff ! I have to share a sweet short story though about her and coloring eggs...she goes to a private christian preschool and they each had to take 6 boiled eggs for them to dye in class. one kid didnt bring his eggs ( not sure why but some parents just arent into their kids like I am) anyway, Hannah decided that she would only color her 1 egg and then gave the other 5 to the little boy that didnt have any....because she knew we would do more at home and he probably wouldnt ! Now that made a moma proud !!!!!
2) Easter Bunny comes, we go to mom in love's this year, go out to the lake, grill out, all sorts of fun ! Spring brings capris, sandals and fun clothes for me...and now that I am a size 12....It will be even more fun !!!!
3) Fav recipe : wow ! everyone knows I love to cook ( yes, still) so let me think here.....
Yummy less sugar Banana pudding
SF banana pudding ( large) instant
Light cool whip ( small tub)
Milk ( as directed on pudding)
SF vanilla wafers
Bananas
Mix pudding up as directed, then whip in cool whip ( all of it) and then layer crushed cookies, thin sliced bananas and pudding mixture until all is used up, topping with more crushed cookies. this is really good anytime and is a whole family favorite !
4) Dont give up on your dreams ! Keep pushing, even when the weight slows down to get to your goal....you have come way to far not to get to that goal ! Be proud of yourself and learn to take compliments with a smile ( I am still working on this one)and just know that you arent alone, visit this board, it is wonderful support !
Dont beat yourself up if you slip into an old habit...we will all I beleive have to fight the "fat demon" inside of us for the rest of our lives !
Hugs and love to you all !
