how long did you wait until you tried pasta after surgery?

I would suggest waiting the Dr. recommended time.  I tried pasta at 6 months out, YUCK!  It was not a good choice!  Bite 1.  was O.K....bite 2.  and I had "urges contrary to swallowing!"  I don't "do" pasta anymore.  I feel it is a "good" thing.

I tried a couple of bites of fettuccine and it made me sick for 3 hours!!!! You can try it, but I say don't do it! I want lasagna so bad it is killing me, but I won't eat it so that it won't. =)

I had pasta (spaghetti) at 1 month out - no problems and it tasted good! I added a little red sauce and parmesan and it was decent. I just chewed the heck out of it before swallowing and also waited in between bites to see how it was going - as I had heard so many people on here couldn't eat it. I was cautious but didn't experience anything at all. Good luck!

I am 10 weeks out tommorow and have been eating whole grain pasta for as long as I have been on solids with no problem. But I seem to be an exception to the rule as I can eat small amounts of whole grain breads and crakers as well. And this has been as advised by my nut. My inlaws had RNY and said they are amazed that I eat grains already. But remeber there is a difference in white pasta and whole grain!

Everyone is very different, as you can tell by the posts. I was able to have mac and cheese during the mushie phase and have had pasta a couple of times since. I am four weeks out today. I eat whole grain pasta - has much more protein in it for sure. I have only had it a couple of times. Although I chew and chew and chew, it still seems I get fuller faster.

Good luck to you!

My surgeon's nutrition program has us eating pasta, rice, potatoes, corn, bread and starchy beans in our 7th month post op.  I'm going to really try and stay with this requirement as I feel like I might lose more weight without all those carbs.

I'm two months out and the most pasta I have had is a bite, not brave enough to make it a whole meal.

I have had bread and it is filling, but I haven't had any issues with it.

Sometimes i wish I were like other people and had more issues eating food. Everything I have tried has gone down fine. And I have never thrown up....been pretty miserable for an hour or two, but no vomiting. hmmm.....

Seriously for MANY of us carbs ARE bad bad bad.  I started eating carbs at about 2 years out first it was just a bite or two then it was more.

My honest suggestion the MORE weight you have to lose I would stay away from carbs as MUCH as possible until goal.  They are truly a slippery slope and a trigger food for many.
