Straws: Do you? Don't you? Would you? Wont you?

So whats the dealio my OH friends? Does anyone use straws? I was told NO straws. We don't eat out much any more so it hasn't been much of an issue. I even stopped using my beloved starbucks cold cups (A daycare parent bought me the new huge one last week for Teacher Appreciation Week… FML) Ive been out drinking three times since surgery and just took the straw out and let my deflated little lips turn blue like a kid with a ******g otter pop. But Yesterday I went to the mall and did the kiosk teeth whitening bull**** and they asked what I drink and I said mostly protein drinks and water. She says okay you need to use a straw if its chocolate. I didn't get into the whole I cant use a straw bit as I had some huge ass squishy tray in my mouth and could do little more than grunt.
So the point to this long winded tale… Does anyone here use straws? I will not call your doctor and tell them, I will not slap your fingers with a ruler.
Just wanna know…. whats the Da-Da-Da-Dealio what the Da-Da-Da Deal Baby?!??!?!

VSG on 03/14/11 with
LOL - we were told not to use them because they will add extra gases to your tummy and cause discomfort  HOWEVER, I do use one with my protein shakes only and that's because I smoothie mine, and am left with tons of foam on top, so the straw gets to the good stuff below and I'm not left with a "got Milk?" kinda look.  I don't notice any extra belching or gases.  I say try it and see

I use a straw every morning with my protein shake. No problems here.

I use straws!  I never understood what the big deal was with not using them?  I don't think I get any more excess air or anything with using them and I am able to drink more and better using a straw.  Actually early on I think I took in more air not using a straw than without.  That is just my two cents!

Hell i use em all the time......since like 2 months out!  At first it is easy to drink too much too fast W/ them...so i think this is why they are a no-no. (easier to gulp instead of sip)  They might increase the air in your tum-tum....not an issue for me....burping is a bonus for me LOL!
I saw those ginormous cups at s-bux....gonna get one for the summer ....iced coffees and ****! ha ha!
At this point........you are far enough out it is a choice for you to decide.

No one is going to take my straws away!!! I asked the nurse why we could not use straws and she said it was we would not drink too fast--not because of any air in our stomach issues.  Once I heard that at my first week post-op appt. I started using straws immediately.  I can control how fast I drink with a straw LOL.

I use straws.  Im only 9 weeks out and I have no problems with straws.  I was also told no straws and stayed away from them until one day I used a straw without thinking about it and realized I was fine. I think I actually take in less air with straws. Who knows, we are all different, see what works for you.

I use straws. My doctor's patient rep actually told me to try a straw to get less air in. It's easier for me to drink with a straw sometimes.

I have a cup with a straw that I can't live without!  Use them all the time!  Personally I think the whole "straws cause more air" is a bunch of hooey!  I actually drink more water/liquids with a straw than without and I need to do everything I can to get my 64oz in. I say use the straw!!
