50 grams of protien... help?
Okay... so I'm a little over 3 weeks out and things are going pretty good!
I have only been averaging 50-55 grams pf protien, which is on target for my doctors plan... but I know so many do SO much more...
I have been doing 1, some times 2 protien shakes a day... I mix them with water and they really don't bother me at all.
I have been averaging around 500 calories a day.
At this point I really can't get more food in...
Do you think I should add an extra shake (at 118 calories, bring me to around 600-650 a day) to make it to more like 70 grams of protien? Should I try to do even more?
I only eat high protien foods... but just so little :-)
All advice welcome!!!

50-55 seems low to me. I'd add another shake in aim for 70 at the minimum. Or get some premier shakes for 30 g protein each, drink 2 of those, and eat what you can.

My doctor has me at 50 grams right now too. I am 3 weeks post op as well. I know around the 2 month appt he is going to have me increase, so I am just getting in what I can now. Usually only 40 if I'm lucky. I am getting more in every few days though, so I will keep working at it. I add benoprotein to everything I can and Have a half a shake twice a day. I can't tolerate a whole shake.
I am two weeks and just increased my protein to 40 grams. I am not "eating" anything else. I could easily go up to 50 or 60 grams of protein. Nothing so far seems to bother my sleeve.
Today instead of putting one scoop of protein powder, I put two scoops of protein in 8 ozs of skim milk.
Next week I should be moving up to 50 grams. then 60 gram and so on...

I was a month out before I started tracking nutrients, and according to those trackers I was at around 400-500 calories and around 30-40 gms of protein and trending upward for a couple weeks until I reached my targets. You can only do what you can do. IF you can increase your protein, seems like it would be OK to do so, and at about 6 weeks out or thereabouts you'll want to get up to the minimum 60 (I always shot for more). I think it's important to note that you're on track according to your surgeon.
I do 50 protein from food a day or a little more. Than my doctor wants 40 extra protein. I put a scoop of protein in my coffee in the am that is 32 grams than drink 15 more grams of protein in my water drink my doc has so I do 47 grams more of protein over my food. It is not to hard to do really. This far out I can hold more meat and veggies and fish. I eat about 8oz of meat a day all together. You will get there do not stress your self out over it.
I would stress so much at the beginning over protein and carbs that i did not enjoy watching the scale move down. now I love stress free eating lol.

If you can, you should add in some more. Your body is still healing, and when you're healing your protein requirements can increase by up to 300% (this is in the case of burns, etc- but still, you've got some injury and trauma that you're dealing with).
Interesting fact: researchers have found that people who have more muscle/lean body mass actually have a survival advantage when they're in accidents/crashes/fires/etc. They heal faster and better. Because the body's demand for protein during the healing process has increased exponentially, and they have more protein stores to feed off of to aid in healing (IE their muscle mass).
But, I'd say if you can, try to space out your protein intake. You can drink 100g of protein at once, but don't be fooled into thinking your body will be able to process all of it at once, because it can't. It only has a limited amount of digestive enzymes (mainly trypsin). So instead of drinking 3 shakes in single servings, maybe split them up into 6 mini-meals. Also easier on your kidneys, which have to deal with the excess protein that doesn't get utilized.
