I am having surgery monday, my doctor said he will know if there is a leak at the time of surgery, I am supposing he does a test during that time. And then I will have one a week later, his experience is that most leaks pop up around day 5 - 7. So I am hoping no leaks at all but will see tiny tummy one week post op.

Done only on the table on me, I don't think anyone who is respected around here would say my surgeon wasn't a qualified surgeon....

No leak test for me through Kaiser. My surgeon said he doesnt put people through that and that if someone has a leak, it will be pretty obvious.

I had an upper GI a couple weeks ago which involved drinking barium contrast and watching it go through my stomach. No way in hell I would have wanted to do that right after surgery. YUCK.

I think I was under when mine was done. I went to a well respected teaching hospital so I know they took the correct measures.

Mine didn't do a leak test either.  I asked her right before I went in to the OR, and she said that they check the suture line during surgery.

My doctor did three.  One, using air, was on the OR table, they look for bubbles.  The next one was an x-ray test, I think the day after surgery where they ask you to drink this contrast stuff that shows up on the x-ray.  The third was a blue dye that would show up in your drainage bag if you had a leak.  I had read about all this before surgery and it was one more reason why I felt so comfortable going to Aceves.

My surgery was Monday morning.  I was NPO until Wednesday morning after the leak test/eval.  I only had to drink a tiny amount of the contrast stuff, which wasn't totally terrible.  I didn't mind because I got to see what my sleeve looked like at that time.  It made a very strong impression on me.  I could see my drain tube in the picture, and compare it to the size of the sleeve - it was not even 1/3 of the size of the drain tube!  Maybe 1/4th.  I also really liked seeing how nice and uniform the size of my sleeve is, all the way from my esophagus down to my pyloric valve.

That said, you really don't read about people finding out they have leaks from the post-surgery leak test.  They all seem to get discovered when the person starts running a fever a couple of days later.
