New Day, New Restaurant Experience
I attended an open house at a vendor's company, lots of food (including barbeque, smelled great), didn't eat anything. Drank a lot of water. Then I went to my first surgery support group meeting. Wasn't bad, but that's another story. Then I found out my partner and I needed to take several clients to dinner after the open house. I picked the restaurant, knew my order (scallop appetizer) and went.
Restaurant has closed! Permanently! Oops! We walked down the street to a Japanese restaurant. We have a large Japanese community here and amazing Japanese food. THEN I ended up not sitting next to my partner, so easy sharing was out.
I had a miso soup while everyone had sushi and other appetizers. Long wait to real food because of much convo and drinking (by others). I ordered a grilled chicken appetizer (yakitori) for dinner, ate about 1.5 ounces and handed across the table to my gf to finish. I am afraid otherwise I would have tried to eat it all and would have felt uncomfortable. I also had a small scallop off of a sampler platters. I made good choices in a pinch and consciously decided I wasn't going to worry what anybody else thought.
Side note: The yakitori was too much for my new tummy. I will be waiting on chicken breast (unground) for a while. It was the first thing that didn't feel right in the tummy.
For the most part....ya did great!
You past what I call "combat eating" I travel a lot and have to eat out a lot.
Gotta pick a choose on the spot.
Yes....chicken was probably a little soon for you at this time.....but small pieces eatin with your miso soup would have helped.....getting the chicken wet.
Another way to go is order a side of Tofu or Edemame to go with your miso soup.

hey you done good. With more experience you will find that eating at restaurants can still be a fun experience and as you get further out more choices are available. I am always happy to order off the appetizer menu and most places have no problem with it. I always tell the waiter to bring the appetizer with everyone else's dinner so the timing is right. Most people don't care or notice. Diane
