This may not be what you want to hear, but with your situation, I would not even recommend trying to have surgery right now - free or otherwise. You need to make sure you have money for quality, healthy food, protein supplements, vitamins, and you really need to have insurance for follow up care and possible complications. Your whole life could be ruined (financially) from having a serious complication with no insurance to take care of it. It's really not worth the risk.

Wait till you get a job, get stable, and then consider having a life altering surgery.

I would have to agree with the others...you definitely need a job with good insurance to have this surgery.  I have Care First Blue Choice and they are covering 100%!

The vitamins, protein, office visits pre and post surgery are all out of pocket so you'll have to have funds for all of this as well.

Hope it all works out for you!

Have you looked into Care Credit. Its a medical loan. Also Starbucks covers WLS, so even getting a job at one would be worth it!!!

Completely agree with acbbrown!

Plus I would highly recommend devoting lots of time to FREE exercise!  Control what you can...and get started on a healthy track.

Get a part time job at Starbucks (and no, I am NOT kidding) from what I hear they have amazing insurance coverage even for their part timers and they include weight loss surgery in the plan.

Hello, this may be a long shot in the dark, but there is an organization that provides very needy people with grants for weightloss surgery. I don't know all the details, but here is the website: www.wlsfa.org . Hope this helps!

Starbucks part time was going to be my suggestion, too! Their insurance is through Aetna last I checked. I know they cover the DS - assume Aetna also covers VSG, but you would have to check.

Also, as mentioned, it's not just about the cost of the surgery. You need $$ for vitamins, follow-up medical monitoring (check-ups and labs and such), protein, etc.
